If you're a morning person

What motivates you to get up early? I would love nothing more than to get up early whilst son and dh are still asleep, creep downstairs with a cuppa and put on tv in silence. I just can't seem to find motivation to do it even if I wake up before them, I just lie on bed playing on my phone. Any tips to get me up?

keep your phone downstairs overnight. Sorted. Grin

It’s not really motivation for me, just that once I’m awake, I’m awake! Happy to just get straight up rather than laying there wide awake

conversely I’m not a late night person and get sleepy easily by 9pm!

Yes, once I'm awake I'm awake! I don't find lying awake in bed particularly comfy so it's not a hardship to leave it.

It's habit - you can get into behaviours and find it easier to do things once you've done them often enough that it becomes second nature. I went from total couch potato, never exercised since school, into a fitness phase in my early 30s. I found it easiest to do this by getting up for 6am and going to the gym for an hour every weekday. First couple of times, it's exciting and new. Then it's really hard for a bit. But after a few weeks - getting up for 6am was just What I Did. It was a habit. I didn't need to particularly think about it, I was going to to it anyway, so I did. It wasn't particularly 'fun' but it was an ingrained habit. Kept that up, transitioning from gym visits to early morning runs, for a couple of years. I've slacked off now, don't often get up at a time that starts with a 5 so much! But while I was in the zone of it, it was nice to have that useful time.

Can you put your phone out of reach so you have to get out of bed to turn the alarm off? Thats how I stated getting up early and I’m now a 5am downstairs with a coffee, it’s bliss!

Same as others. Once my eyes flicker open, that’s it. I’m into a new day, awake.

Like mushypeas there I’m an early morning exerciser. As someone who is an early riser by nature, it’s the ideal time for me. It’s ingrained now. I think 7.30 is a lie in. Ha ha.
