Harry Potter play scripts

Good morning

My 7 year old has asked for The Cursed Child book for Christmas, I've looked on amazon and seen that it's not a novel but a play script, similar with the fantastic beasts books.

She's a very good reader for her age but I wondered how these read and if they might be confusing?

Are there novel versions at all? What age do you think these are suitable for? The reviews seem to mostly very from adult readers

My 8 year old read it. Its pretty easy to follow.

Yeah it's not a novel.
I remember when this was released and felt sorry for all the excited children looking forward to the "new Harry Potter book" and then being disappointed that it was just the script.
I personally don't think at 7 she would get much out of reading it this way. Maybe as an alternative you could see if you could get one of the books that's like a character guide or similar. I know Lego do books (obviously the illustrations are the Lego minifig versions of the characters).

Thank you, she's read the others that are linked to fantastic beasts, beadle the bard and the fantastic beasts guide (and another I forget) and loved them but I think I might try and persuade her to wait a bit longer to read the cursed Child.

It's definitely a script. It also moves back and forward in time a LOT. I think 7 is far too young to understand it properly even if she can read the words.

I took DS to see the play in London earlier in the year and he was one of very few children in the audience (he's 9). It was Mostly adults, decent number of teenagers.

To be fair the actual plot isn't great anyway, it's the special effects that make the show any good.

Why not just get it for her from the library, if she doesn't like it you haven't lost anything then?

My kid read it around the same age. Was absolutely fine with it - it's full of descriptions and it's magical. Just explain it's a script for the play. They will have seen those anyway for school plays and they will be studying scripts as they get older in school!
