Handhold for dreaded Norovirus

FurnitureDisease · 07/11/2022 17:57

Long time lurker, first posting!

Just looking for a handhold really

DH went visiting family with baby knowing they were sick and is somehow shocked at the resulting apocalypse from both ends

My poor wee DS 5 months suffering all day can’t put him down (though no actual vom or poop to be seen yet)

Im SO mad at DH for being irresponsible and leaving me to take time off and look after DS, and it’s heartbreaking seeing his little face in pain

Emetophobic and praying I escape this though have deffo felt ropey and dodgy tum for 2 days

Send good thoughts pleaseeee 🙏🏼

Why isn't he taking time off

FurnitureDisease · 07/11/2022 21:04

Oh he’s off Pasta, but he was the one to come down with it first and in typical fashion (for some men) is in “the dressing gown of doom” and in no fit state

I remember I got Norovirus on the same day as my toddler and baby. It was dire. Just awful. The kids were awful and so was I. Asked DH to stay home to help but he refused. Ended up having to take
Baby to hospital at the insistence of a medical professional.

Two days later we were home. DH came down with Norovirus. He lay on the lounge floor in the dressing gown of doom groaning.

After two days of having it myself but being expected to single handedly look after two small children with it, I'm afraid I stepped over him and went out with the kids.

FurnitureDisease · 08/11/2022 13:22

@nowgoingout what’s wrong with these men, I do not know

Mines generally a good husband but anything remotely stressful or illness and it all becomes a shambles.

He would never leave me with 2 smalls to suffer though, that’s not cool from your DH.
Sorry for your experience, sounds an absolute nightmare!

Mine didn’t get any sympathy either mind you

Urgh sorry you're going through this. We had norovirus at the same time as our 10 month old a few months ago and it was bleak. The cream carpets have never been the same since.

Nanny67 · 08/11/2022 13:28

I had this when my baby was 10 days old and breastfed. I also had a 15 month old and a 7 year old. Ex h went to work whilst I spent the day sh!tting the bed and vom on the floor with the poor baby just lying on my naked body trying to get what she could. 15m toddler was just wandering around crying and 7yo had to walk to school. I'd had an emergency csection. Literally thought I was dying.

FurnitureDisease · 08/11/2022 18:46

@Nanny67 well that certainly puts things into perspective for me and I’m so glad to see “ex H” there… I have no words for some people! Bless you and your kids. I hope the situation has improved now he’s been binned off

@pbdr thank you, we seem to have got off lightly (prayysss) and also thankful to the gods that the carpet is brown that we have 😂

I hope you fucking kicked him as you went! 😡Norovirus isn't like a bad cold for goodness sake! What an utter dick to leave you to it.

Greenshake · 08/11/2022 18:52

@FurnitureDisease why on Earth did your husband visit people who he KNEW to be unwell?

Iwritethissittinginthekitchensink · 08/11/2022 18:57

God what an idiot your DH is. I caught norovirus when I was pregnant. Was sick into a mug at work as I ran to the bathroom, and then was sick another 19 times in 10 hours, had to go to hospital for an IV I was that dehydrated and exhausted.

Hope you all feel better soon. Hand him the baby as soon as he’s feeling better than you! Flowers

FurnitureDisease · 08/11/2022 21:58

@Greenshake Because it was family and he no doubt thought it didn’t count / was something minor…. Soon changed his tune 😂

Reading some of the replies here I definitely could have had it far worse, bless you all xx

How are you doing?

FurnitureDisease · 09/11/2022 21:16

@Greenshake DH fully recovered, wee DS mostly back to his happy self and I’m mostly ok, still tiny bit ropey

Trip to the docs in order for me as it caused a few problems but thanks so much for checking in

OP posts:
Greenshake · 09/11/2022 21:53

No problem, glad you are mostly on the mend 🙂

cassiatwenty · 10/11/2022 13:38

@FurnitureDisease Just wanted to check in, how have you been doing these days? How have things been going for you? Take care x

namechangeagain3 · 10/11/2022 13:45

Get some ice poles in incase you are sick and lemonade. It's the only things I could nibble on with norovirus. Not for my appetite but to settle my tummy.

FurnitureDisease · 10/11/2022 20:07

@cassiatwenty we are on the mend thank you so much ❤️ I would say not 100% still for me but almost there now

With wee DS he’s picked up something already from nursery now again bless him. But he’s a tough little thing!

@namechangeagain3 thanks for the tip! I resorted to mints this time which seemed to help. I ended up without the sick this time it was just nausea and the other end, but it was like a pit of snakes writhing around in there and wouldn’t settle, awful virus it is!

taken out quite a few people I know now as well, usually all the ones with kids the poor things xx

Greenshake · 11/11/2022 08:53

What happened?

borderterrierr · 11/11/2022 09:02

@FurnitureDisease oh no. Hope you're okay

FurnitureDisease · 11/11/2022 09:28

Well I’d had a few days of upset tum and general roughness, which became savagery and vom overnight

Eurghhh it’s the worst

Thanks for checking in guys

OP posts:
Greenshake · 11/11/2022 13:37

Hang in there! With you in spirit!

FurnitureDisease · 11/11/2022 16:54

@Greenshake thank you. Praying it’s a short one

@FurnitureDisease

How have you been doing? How have things been with you lately?

Wishing you a happy (alas belated) NYE and to your nearest and dearest 💞

Unforgettablefire · 09/01/2023 10:56

Norovirus is the devils work. Evil. Makes me feel sick thinking about it.
I really feel for those having to look after family as well.
I hope all that are suffering a quick recovery 💐
