"Turkish" furniture on FB Marketplace

Browsing for dining tables on FB Marketplace, Shpock, etc.

Every third listing is one of these fake-looking scam listings, of shiny, vulgar furniture, always with "Turkish" in the title.

Who is buying this hideous stuff? Its often the same pictures put up by different people, so looks totally fake. What is this scam and why do they use such odd pics?

It's really annoying! I just want to see actual people's dining tables for sale, not vulgar shiny Chanel or Versace branded tables!

Oh god, the eye melting tacky bling. It seems to have faded on my town’s for sale groups but it was a real thing a couple of years ago.

toastedcat · 07/11/2022 15:32

I wish there was a way to filter it out!🫣

Not to my taste and I don't know if they are actually Turkish or not. But How do you know it's a scam?

BonjourPetitPois · 07/11/2022 15:36

I don't know if you've already tried this, but I filter to just show Used items, purely to try and filter all this tacky stuff out! Some of it still gets through but it definitely reduces the amount...

toastedcat · 07/11/2022 15:37

@Saltywalruss I don't know if it is. It just seems suss to me that there are so many listings all by different people with the same bizarre furniture? Or is this style actually popular and loads of people are selling it? It just doesn't compute!

On some searches you can add something like
-Turkish
and it will exclude items that have 'Turkish' in the title. (It works on Ebay)

That's a minus sign by the way. You can put a string of these if you like. e.g. Dining Table -Turkish -Crap etc.
