What is this in my new kitchen?

I went to have a look round the house that we're buying today to check a couple of things on the survey and the estate agent and I were mulling about the purpose of a metal pole above the sink in the kitchen. It's an industrial pipe, probs about 50com long, that's vertical, bolted to the wall and has about 10 circular holes in it, each about 6 or 7cm in diameter. It sort of looks like a tiny wine rack but obviously you couldn't just shove the neck of the bottle in because it would balance out I think. So what is it for? The estate agent suggested it was for pots but, as with the one bottles, I don't think you'd able to balance them in there. Maybe tea towels? But it seems a bit excessive. So any ideas or any ideas about what I could use it for?

I do have a blurry pic but can't attach it for some reason.

To hold plastic bags?

FannyFifer · 07/11/2022 14:28

To put herbs in?

I did wonder about plastic bags but it doesn't feel very 'chic' and it's quite a swish kitchen. Herbs is an interesting shout though, that would make sense as any bits would fall down into the sink.

@PatriciaHolm Ooh it does look a lot like that. Maybe it is a wine rack! I just can't see how the bottles stay in!

Physics ;-)

As long as the neck goes through to the other side, they will be fine.

@PatriciaHolm Could you tell that I'm not much of a scientist? 😂 Thank you!!

And me! I'm just imagining waking up to hear a huge crash in the middle of the night and running downstairs to a lake of wine!

I had one of those in a previous kitchen and I used to keep a duvet underneath it in case any bottles fell, as I never really trust it 😂 Nothing ever did….

I had a wine rack like this and it worked really well. A little bit of art on your kitchen wall :)
