I'd love to wear hats in winter. But I feel ridiculous. Help please!

I went out with a friend yesterday, and she was wearing a beautiful hat. Woollen, a rich chocolate brown, large-ish brim. She looked amazing. And yet whenever I try a hat in a shop, I love the look but feel ridiculous. What's the secret to wearing hats and looking great, rather than ridiculous? Any idea? Here is the type of hat I'd like to wear.

I think it depends on what you are wearing, I'd say thats a dressy hat, not one to wear with a puffa jacket 😂 a woollen hair is more casual and easier to wear but depends on your style.

Woollen hat not hair

What sort of winter coat do you wear?

It’s a lovely hat, but do you wear the sort of clothes that would go with it?

I do have a couple of smart coats (a camel one and a black one) and I often wear heels when I go out. So I often dress fairly smart when I go out. But I never wear hats so I feel quite awkward if I try...

The secret is confidence according to mum! Easier said than done though 🤣 She always looks amazing in hats too. Sorry I can't really help. Why not just buy one a give it a go?

I actually have one I bought ages ago - and never wore! Do I keep it on in the car? I usually keep my coat on in the car if it's for short journeys... So many questions. What a minefield!!!

I think that hat is a very particular look and if your clothes don’t match, it might look a little bit odd. I don’t think I’d wear heels with it. Maybe go onto style & beauty and get some expert advice.

I’m pretty sure it’s 90% confidence though. Buy one and wear it somewhere you’ve never been before. They’ll see you as a hat person.

Great suggestion, @Sn0tnose , thank you.

Some people suit hats. Some do not. Sorry

EnterFunnyNameHere · 07/11/2022 16:20

Some people do just "suit" hays more than others, but the key is to wear what makes you happy and give less ducks what anyone else might think. If they love you they'll love that you're happy in what you're wearing. If they don't, fuck'em!! 😁

I love hats. I just crack on and wear them.
Actually it's good weather for pulling my favourite one out 😎

That type of hat makes me think posh countryside style. So tweed coat and boots. When you try one on, what are you wearing? It might be the outfit doesnt go. It is a bit of a statement hat so maybe keep trying it on at home and short trips out until you get used to it?
