Turning 40 - positives pls!

I'd just like to preface by saying this is a light hearted post - anyway, I turned 40 today. Feeling weirdly sad and nostalgic about lost youth etc. and having a bit of an internal pity party about feeling and looking old. which is ridiculous really as I've got lots to be grateful for - relatively healthy, 2 lovely kids etc, usual grumbles but can't really complain. I'm doing nothing special today, just as work as usual (maybe that's part of the issue, and my own fault really but trying to save money plus don't like a fuss).

I would however love any positive things about turning 40 please! It's going to be great right?! Best decade yet?! Confused

Mid 40s here and bloody love it. For me the further I get into my 40s the less I'm bothered about what others think and generally just give way less fucks. For me this could also be perimenopause but it's liberating

Welllll... my 40's weren't great.. excrutiating divorce etc with all the pain that brings.. plus it's such an odd time.. you're halfway through your life & I was thinking 'but I haven't ACHIEVED anything..'
Don't worry though, 50's & 60's are awesome! ;-)

Happy Birthday! :-)

That's exactly it - all that what if's, should I have done that, have I achieved ANYTHING of note?! Glad to hear your 50s and 60s are making up for it Grin

Happy 40th Birthday. I was exactly the same when I was 40, but now I'm a few years down the line, I'm loving it. I give zero fucks anymore. It's great! I mentor younger work colleagues and I wouldn't be 25 again for all the tea in China. Being young today sucks, I'm so grateful I was a 90s teenager that being overweight and achey in comparison to them is a trade off I'm happy with 🤣

My advice is to find the joy in your age. I'm done having babies, so I'm free of worry about fertility. I own a house ( v lucky) and I have a career I love, respect at work blah, blah. No one expects me to go clubbing til 4am, a night out with mates involves good food, drink and chat.

And I'm not as old as my mum 😃

I just stopped caring about my age, it means nothing. I'm happy and that's what matters. It doesn't matter what age I am, it matters how happy I am with my life.

The number of fucks you give diminishes with each birthday.

Poppytime · 07/11/2022 11:19

Haha thanks guys. Maybe that's what I need to focus on, not caring as much, and certainly not about age as a number
