It's my best friend's 40th next week and we've taken the day off to go into London. She's had a rubbish time recently so I want to plan something really lovely, but what! I need ideas!

I was thinking of the Champagne Bar at St Pancras to start, so that kind of place really....wow things to do/places to go.

We need to stay more west for trains back that's probably the only thing to factor in.

Hakassan is open on Mondays and they do an offer of 3 courses plus a cocktail for 40 quid each

Afternoon tea in Liberty or at The Wolseley would be nice as an alternative

Bob Bob Ricard for lunch if you can get in

Another idea is to go to Tate Britain in Pimlico and then get the Uber river taxi to Battersea Power Station. There’s lots of lovely restaurants and cafes there. Next to the river. If it’s a nice day you could also have a walk in Battersea park.

You could then get the taxi back to Embankment past Westminster. Or go further to see more if the sights - much cheaper than a tourist trip and the boats are lovely.

Thank you! I'm trying not to come up with fussy things, that's not really her thing. So somewhere with a good atmosphere sounds perfect.

Kingly Court is great in good weather when you can sit outside - not so sure if it’s raining.

Liberty is definitely worth a look around and regents street then Piccadilly into green park to buck palace then walk up the mall to Trafalgar Square and into national gallery then up Whitehall, pop to see Rishie in Downing Street and the palaces of Westminster and get Westminster tube back to st Pancras again

If you are pushed for time I'd probably stick to Coal Drops Yard, nice market to mooch around, lovely shops and some decent places to eat. There's a fab Italian not posh but nice food.
Plus unlike pp I love the champagne bar and would do it before going home.

With the Uber taxi boats, can you just pay on the boat for single trips? Thanks!

OP - hope you don't mind a quick derail.

You can pay with Contactless or an Oyster like you would the tube.
