What has happened to Charlie Bighams Chicken Jalfreizi?

I know it might not be the most pressing issue in the world at the moment...

Had my all time favourite Charlie Bighams last weekend: Chicken Jalfreizi.
It was watery, bland and nowhere near as good as it used to be. The flavours used to be amazing. Also, no peppers on top.

I am hoping it was just a one-off bad batch where someone forgot to actually add half the ingredients...

Have you had a disappointing CB's lately?

I love their meals usually, but the Moussaka we had the other night wasn't quite as nice.

Following with interest as these are a treat in our house. They aren’t cheap so I hope the quality hasn’t gone down.

DH is a fan of CB when he goes away in the camper, as they are really tasty dishes and as near to homemade as you can get.

Hopefully it's a one-off for you, but it will be really disappointing if they scrimp on the ingredients and do what the food industry is doing right now - compromising quality and charging more.

We cook a lot of curries from scratch but as a treat sometimes get the Bighams chicken tikka masala if you haven't tried that one - it's straight up banging!

Clawdy · 06/11/2022 17:37

Yes, the Tikka Masala is delicious!

BarrelOfOtters · 06/11/2022 17:44

I like their red Thai curry…but the last one wasn’t great. But then tested positive for covid,,,,hmmmm.

I love these! My partner however could eat three of them to himself (and not gain a single pound) so we don't have them but I'm jealous you do!

Butteredtoast55 · 06/11/2022 18:51

Macaroni cheese is not as nice as it used to be and I really wish they didn't put pancetta in it as I have to pick it all off (DH eats it, I don't). There are few enough CB vegetarian meals so would it hurt to leave the pancetta off it (I'm sure however that's the best but for some of you!)

Thanks for the replies.
I had a quick look on Trust Pilot and found quite a few saying the same thing, especially about Chicken Jalfreizi. Such a shame as it was our number 1 curry! I get these are difficult times for all, but the prices have gone up yet the quality has dropped.
Love the Chicken Tikka Masala too, though haven't had it for a while. That's our number 2!

No idea but the Carbonara has rocketed in price and you don't get the Parmesan sachet anymore. I think there's less meat too but it still tastes good overall.

I had Butter Chicken the other week, that was still excellent.

oldwhyno · 07/11/2022 16:37

I love the green curry, and when it's on special at ~£6.50 in sainsburys I think it's amazing value as it feeds two of us quite happily.

will be gutted if they've changed the recipe or supplier and it's gone downhill.

BigSandyBalls2015 · 07/11/2022 16:43

We’ve started getting these on a sat night occasionally, instead of a takeaway. Love the curries, moussaka and fish pie.

Haven’t had one recently though so hope they’re not cutting corners.

I saw on insta that they’ve brought out a madras but I can’t find it in our supermarkets.

Blueberrycreampie · 07/11/2022 16:51

I have a friend who was so disappointed in the CB (not sure if CTM or Jalfrezi) they complained and got a £20.00 voucher! It may be worth a try?

DoraChance · 07/11/2022 16:52

Had the moussaka last night and thought it was really salty - def didn't taste as nice as I remember.

hattie43 · 07/11/2022 17:03

I love their meals but stick to the same ones and I've not tried the jalfrezi . I haven't noticed other dishes changing so hopefully you've been unlucky
