not sure if this will make me feel worse or better.

dd just 7 but has sen and young for her she lost a tooth yesterday, she hasn't been losing them for long.

what with firework night and coming trying to get them into bed, both me and Dd fell sleep in my bed and I totally forgot to sort it.

I feel awful.

We told her because of all the fireworks going off the tooth fairy wasn't safe to come last night and will be back tonight

wtaf.

feel like the most crappy parent ever!

Perfectly reasonable excuse. Fairies don’t like loud explosive noises.

ProfYaffle · 06/11/2022 07:29

We found money in the garden once. We think the cat scared her off and she dropped it. She apologised the next night.

ChristmasCakeAndStilton · 06/11/2022 07:31

Most tooth fairies have been delayed at some point or the other.
The fireworks excuse sounds perfect.
Take it easy on yourself.

Bytrgrewd · 06/11/2022 07:33

That was good thinking! I would be surprised if there are any parents who haven’t forgotten at least once.
I usually “find” the money right inside the pillowcase - tooth fairy must have got lost trying to find the tooth 🤷🏼‍♀️

Roselilly36 · 06/11/2022 07:34

Aww Op, don’t feel bad, I also forgot one time, easily done, I said the tooth fairy had a lot of teeth to collect and her bag was full, so leave the tooth there and she will be back tonight, and she was.

XanaduKira · 06/11/2022 07:36

Great thinking Op. Don't feel bad - just set a reminder for yourself before you go to bed & do it tonight.

PortiasBiscuit · 06/11/2022 07:38

The money is there, have a good feel around with your hand. You’ll find it. Maybe on the floor?

Propertyporn · 06/11/2022 07:39

We've all been there op! I forgot with dd and she came into my bedroom clutching the tooth looking devastated. Forgot with ds but he forgot too and even when I put the money under his pillow the next night it stayed there for almost a week!

I've used the firework excuse now but thank you!

she was really sad when the tooth was still on the little dish she put it in on her side 😭

Snap!!

We suggested that maybe the TF is on strike like the postal workers.

We're also suggesting that maybe the TF hasn't found the tooth yet as DD swallowed it......

A comedy note needs to be made tonight. 🤪

carefulcalculator · 06/11/2022 07:42

Oh, the tooth fairy we had was useless, we had to make formal complaints to their manager.

You are not the first and won't be the last to suffer from a decline in customer care standards from the tooth fairy.

We found signage for the fairy was helpful.

whydoesitalwayshappentome · 06/11/2022 07:52

My daughter often laid traps for the tooth fairy and it was sometimes hard to swap the tooth for money, plus the tooth fairy could not always find a pound coin, so she used to leave letters saying she would be back the next day. Most parents have been there, don't feel bad.

Xelda · 06/11/2022 07:54

I remember a few occasions as a child when it was too windy for the tooth fairy to make the journey! Wink

StrawberryPot · 06/11/2022 08:00

The tooth fairy assigned to our house was notoriously forgetful too and didn't always finish her rounds. She always came the next night though.

Or sometimes (if we were quick enough and could get to their bed first) you'd find she'd been whilst dc had been out of their room to complain.

Sometimes she left the money (which had accidentally slipped down the side of the bed) and forgot to take the tooth. 🙄

Our tooth fairy was useless 🤷‍♀️

CornedBeef451 · 06/11/2022 08:07

Over the years ours hasn't come because of rain, snow, cats and then in later years because DS was testing a theory and didn't tell us he'd lost a tooth.

I once managed to do a quick exchange during breakfast and said she must have been running late.

Don't worry about it!

WutheredOut · 06/11/2022 08:13

The tooth fairy has been later because of bank holidays, storms, the new puppy, and our personal favourite - the bears snoring in mummy and daddy’s bedroom scared her away

DD almost doesn’t believe in the tooth fairy now but still puts her tooth under her pillow with a note …. just in case!

BeanieTeen · 06/11/2022 08:16

It happens.
We used to all get together as a family for an Easter egg hunt when I was little but the Easter bunny was late - he’d been detained by the police apparently. Everyone was outraged. Nan rang up the station and said they need to let him go by the afternoon because he hadn’t finished his rounds. I know this is all 100% true because my oldest cousin saw him wrongfully arrested on the telly…

No idea what really happened there - I guess someone forgot to bring the chocolate over?? (I still haven’t asked my parents about the incident 😂)

Anyway - if your child was as gullible as me and my siblings you can take tremendous creative licence and relish the drama with this kind of mistake and it will become a very exciting memory!

Set an alert for half an hour after she's gone to bed. There's lots of reasons the tooth fairy hasn't visited us. It's been too windy (blown off course, took too long to do the rounds), too cold (frozen wing), window closed, DC woke too early and scared her off, too many other children and couldn't get round at night (in summer so short nights!) because she starts with the youngest first...

TheFreaksShallInheritTheEarth · 06/11/2022 08:35

My DCs tooth fairy was useless. Used to forget more often than not. We just used to tell them that sometimes she was busy, so came the next day. Or look, there it is! It was under your pillow all the time!
We're beyond that stage now, and I feel sorry for today's tooth fairies because we all use so little cash now, must take some planning ahead!

NoYouSirName · 06/11/2022 08:37

Our tooth fairy is very forgetful. Often we have to hunt around the floor to see if a coin has been dropped, and hey presto, it usually has.

Suzi888 · 06/11/2022 08:41

“My daughter often laid traps”🤣🤣🤣🤣

Bouledeneige · 06/11/2022 08:48

Gosh this happened quite a few times with me. I'd say you haven't looked hard enough and would go to help and slip it in somewhere. It's not exactly crime of the century.

Lulu1919 · 06/11/2022 08:51

The tooth fairy was often feeling a bit unwell over the years ...but then always popped in the next night and left the money and a little extra...we had stickers !!!

dottiedodah · 06/11/2022 08:53

I remember when I forgot. Then remembered about 3am! Cue creeping round half asleep looking for change .Of course the fairies cant come by (Might be hit by a runaway firework!)
