What are things like in NY now

So Dd (16) has chance of school trip to NY. Flatiron district, usual tourist stuff.

I love NY. Massive financial stretch but will support her to go.

but…have not been there since before covid. Freaked myself out reading online about increased crime, addiction, homelessness etc.

at meeting the other night, school organiser clearly expected it to be same as when he last ran the trip, 3 years ago. Is a v rural school, a bit sheltered maybe.

am I being PFB (for a 16 year old…) or do I need to help prepare DD if she goes.

Surely they will be together in a group the whole time so limited chances for anything negative to happen? Crime happens anywhere. Even in v.rural areas. Just prepare your child re safety issues and to scream/shout if anything happens. I’ve been to NYC numerous times by myself and nothing has ever happened. Just don’t go walking down alleys or dodgy looking places. I was out at 5am most mornings due to jet jag. Best time of the day ever. Coffee. Croissants, papers, a silent park to explore as the Dawn was breaking. Wits about me. It was fine.
