People bringing up the duration of their relationship

A colleague of mine (we are sort of becoming friends) randomly brought up in conversation how this was the 12th Christmas with her husband a few weeks ago. I started to think about it and realised that she does this a lot. Many anecdotes and social media posts mention how long they have been together. And I noticed since then that I have 2 other colleagues that do the same, well oneif a manager and she always begins her stories about her husband with "my husband of 33 years".

I always have a bit of a no reaction to these. Cause while their long relationships are good for them, I'm not sure I should start praising them. I have some theories on what it's about (trying to make other jealous, insecurity, thinking they are better etc.) But I do find it a bit odd. I mean sure sometimes it's relevant to the story but in these cases the context is "did you buy new Christmas wrapper?" "I did, snowflakes on them. I can't believe this is my Xth Christmas with my husband".

Has anyone noticed this with the people around them?

Not me, but to be fair those I know would be aware my husband’s been dead for nearly six years and that they’d get pretty short shrift!

I can’t say I’ve noticed this but I think it may well go over my head regardless as it’s just not something I care much about!

No, I haven’t noticed anyone I know doing this.

A variant of this is those who say "my husband" when we've all met him.

I have no idea how long anyone around me has been with their spouses/partners, so I'm assuming they don't. I've had to sit and work out how long I've been with dh, prompted by this thread.
