planning to visit Marrakesh next year in October. Wondering if anyone who has been can suggest some excursions/trips to places within a reasonable distance?
obviously we will visit all the spots to see in Marrakesh but are there any interesting spots within 2-3 hrs of Marrakesh?

any recommendations for those suitable for children would be good too.

Came back 3 weeks ago. You can do trips up into the atlas mountains - one place where there is a waterfall to walk up the side of - its very steep, and you will get lunch by the river when you come back. Its about 1 1/2 hrs drive, plus stopping at a berber house and somewhere to buy gifts. I think there are 2 or 3 other places you can go to in the mountains.

essasouira is on the coast so a full say trip.

wherever you are staying will have details of lots of things to do.

We did a private 4x4 tour of the Atlas Mountains. Was great day out.

Been quite a few times, it's like a magnet to me! Others have mentioned atlas mountains, that's a must. The trip out to Ourika falls is really cool, and you can also go out to Ksour Agafay - the "stoney desert" and you can do quad biking etc there.

Essaouira is a full day, or even overnight, it's so different to marrakech, the medina has big wide streets and it's right by the sea.

Brunch by the red pool at Murano is fun, they have DJs and its a nice party atmosphere.

Are these tours you did with children. Found a few but hard to see if they are suitable for children

We took the bus to Essaouira and stayed for a couple of nights there. Much preferred it to Marrakesh tbh, more chilled.

Highly recommend finding a food tour and doing it early on as it really helps get your bearings in the souks and they can give you lots of tips on where to go too.

Trip to Agafay desert in a 4x4. And a guided walk in the hills/ mountains. We did both in one day including a stop at a market. We did it with DD when she was 9, there was a fair bit of walking. Not good for really small kids.
I think it was this one https://gowithguide.com/morocco/tour/marrakech-atlas-mountains-agafay-desert-day-trip-from-marrakech-6072 or similar.

Definitely do ouzoud falls in the Atlas Mountains if you can. Out of all the parts of the world iv been to, this was my most very favourite. Definitely worth it.

We travelled their yrs ago, the atlas mountains were amazing, we stayed overnight in the desert having travelled by camel and enjoyed a few days in essaouirra. There were no children on our adventures and I doubt my kids would enjoy the trip
