What do you think is a reasonable number of pairs of pants and socks for an adult to own?

I'm saying 20 of each.

I suspect I own more than that but some of mine definitely need recycling.

If people agree with me that 20 is a good number I will get rid of some!

I guess if you include tights (thick and thin) long and short socks, I probably do have 20 pairs but why on earth would you need 20 pairs of pants

I’d say for me, ten or twelve max. Otherwise I’d never use the ones at the back of the drawer.

Unless you go on fortnight long holidays maybe and then you might need a few more.

There was a thread this week where the OP said that she had sixty (60!!) pairs of pants.

20 seems about right, I have different colour pants to go under certain clothes.

I have about 40 pairs of each

10 days worth plus a weeks worth of period pants.

20 sounds right. I have way more and the ones at back of drawer don't get used as pp said. I have more than 20 pairs of socks but always go to the ones I prefer. I need a clear out it seems...

If I was living frugally I would suggest 9 of everything, three clean and ready to be worn, three in the wash, three drying.

I reckon 17 or 18 is plenty. That means if you go away for a fortnight you can pack enough for a clean pair every day and still have a clean pair for when you get back and the ones you are wearing before you leave.

Socks is different as I have some trainer sox, some ankle sox, some hiking sox, some thermal ones, some welly ones, etc. A couple of pairs of black ones in case need a more formal look ever, some pop sox, some with little grips underneath I wear for yoga, then tights......

I recently ditched the aged contents of my knicker drawer and bought 12 lovely new pairs. That’s enough for me.
Socks, haven’t counted, probably a few more, but I’d like to ditch most of those and start again, too.

20 is completely reasonable, that's a 2 week holiday with a couple of pairs either side. No harm in having more though, it's not like they take up much space

Probably about 20-25 bra and pants (I like them to match).

Probably about 60 pairs of socks of different types. Maybe more.

I've got 7 bras, 10 pairs of every day socks and 10 pairs of every day briefs.

Generally works fine. 🙂

I have 24 normal pants and 2 lingerie pants. Only reason I have so many as someone else mentioned is two week holidays
