I love mulled wine. Each batch I make turns out different. I am wondering what would the best wine to use for making a mulled wine.

I would like a mulled wine that's smooth and not sharp.

Please help a woman with a fucked up life. This is my 6ty day at work with no end in sight. I'm hoping to finish tomorrow but it will be the evening time by the time I will be finished and it will just be one evening before work again for the week ahead starting on Monday. I'm migrained out in work.

I definitely need to lash in the alcohol as soon as I get out of work.

I've never made it, I always just buy it and warm it up. I like the Aldi one.

The online grocery shop I am on doesn't have the ready made bottle unfortunately.

I’d use something that has spice notes, like Shiraz or Malbec. I don’t like the pre made, too sweet for me.

As you will be adding spices etc I'd use a merlot. (I love a good malbec or syrah but would not mull them as I'd feel it was a waste - I don't make cocktails using my favourite fizz either!)

I made some last week and used Merlot. It turned out really good

I'd say Merlot too

Thank you for all of the replies. The pandemic winter I tried different types of reds for mulled wine and one of them turned out beautiful and smooth but I forgot what kind of red I used. I will try the merlot.

We buy a "Tesco Fruity Red" winebox as we mull a lot of wine, and with sufficient spices it's really nice! Ready made ones tend to be too sweet for us. Enjoy!
