Should I claim on my car insurance or not?

Been driving 30 years, never had a scratch, but thanks to a pillar I now have a dent in my car. Local (trustworthy) garage says it would cost £490 to sort and I know they'd do a good job.

My annual premium is £406 with £350 excess. So if I pay my local garage £490 he'll do it, or it'll cost me £350 going via insurance plus whatever my insurance goes up by next year.

What should I do? Does anyone have any idea by how much insurance might go up next year? I have no idea whether to claim or not!

There's no way of knowing your exact circumstances and what your insurance company will apply. Maybe try an insurance comparison site - put in same details as your existing insurance without any accident. Then run it through again with the claim disclosed and see what the difference is.
