Car reversed into me…HELP PLEASE!

Hi All.
Need some help please 🙏
Our local Spar is on the corner of a road and has parking at front. I’m on my home from picking my little one from after school club, I turn left onto the Spar road (spar is now on my right hand side and I’m on the left ) to be hit on the side of my moving car by a car reversing! There was a large white transit van that was at the bottom of the junction waiting to turn left out of the road (spar is on left side of this lane) and this absolute pillock reversed behind the white van with no clear view and went over that lane and hit me in mine! I pull over, and I’m trying to comfort my child whilst trying to stay calm. I get out of the car and the other driver pulls back into the car park again and gets out of his car. He approaches me and is telling me he is sorry over and over again and I asked him ‘were you not looking before you reversed?’. His reply was ‘I’m so sorry, I didn’t check’. As he was being so amenable and admitted fault straight away, we swapped details and off we went. My main priority was to get home and console my child. Checked car over and there is a few dents and deep scratches but nothing has fallen off, child and I are not injured. I let the insurance people know by filling out the online claim and gave all details, other driver info and what happened.
And this is where I need advice- husband is saying I should have got details from witnesses in case the driver says he was not at fault. I’m not sure he can say that as he reversed all the way over into my lane with a vehicle blocking his view and hit the side of my car. I didn’t see his car until it was too late and I had got past the van!
Now I know he admitted fault to me. I made sure he gave me his correct mobile number, name and took his reg, did a social media stalk and it is this person!
Please can anyone offer any advice? Can he change his mind and say he wasn’t at fault to the insurance company??
I really can’t afford to pay for the repairs myself!
(if you managed to make it all the way to the bottom- thank you! It’s a long post!)

Update!
so I have just found out that the car is untaxed that hit me yesterday! He’s not going to be insured is he? 😭 he is not responding to any of my messages 😫

Not necessarily. I drove around without tax for a week by accident once Blush but have always remembered to be insired

You shouldn’t really contact him yourself at all - let the insurance deal with it. But yes see if you can get CCTV and Facebook for witness appeal is also a good idea.

This is exactly what insurance is for, they will do the investigations, you just submit your claim and let them sort it.

Untaxed absolutely does NOT mean uninsured. Please stop panicking, your dh is an asshole for putting the wind up you the way he has. As others have said it’s dead easy to be smart with 20/20 hindsight vision

Go back and take photographs and a video of where is happened, write a concise description of what happened

I just had a woman change her mind about changing her story when the insurance said we have video and photographs from the other party

I skid on some black ice once and rolled into the back of another car. No damage to either. Took lots of photos at the scene and agreed to leave it.
Next day I start getting texts for money as there car is so very damaged.
they then sent photos of the ‘damage’ which was old and too high up for my car to hit. DH measured our car and got the spec for their car to prove it, sent it all to the insurers.
They then sent a very nasty text saying I had so long to transfer money or they would go to the insurers. Loved sending that text saying I already had. never heard from them again.

Hi op, I just wanted to jump on and say as well, that this was a minor scrape. Shocking and shakes you up a bit but ultimately it's a few scratches on a bit of metal. It's hassle and possibly some level of expense (though you don't have to get it fixed if the car is perfectly drivable). No-one was hurt and these things happen. Try not to let it cause too much stress and worry.

Just as a side note, you’ll need to get your little ones car seat replaced if it’s been in a bump.

Hope you’re both ok!

Whoops, middle of the night awake with a poorly toddler! Didn’t think something from that long ago would appear on my thread

Check your insurance, lots of policies cover being hit by an uninsured driver so you can probably claim through your own policy. In my experience insurance companies are good at seeing through stories, twice my husbands car has been hit and neither time he was at fault, once he was parked, the other time a car drove into the side of him. Both times the drivers tried to get out of it but the insurance phoned me and said we don’t trust their story it doesn’t add up we are siding with you. But both times we went though our own insurance and got them to claim back through the at fault party.

They will check for damage on his car. I had a hit an run whose number plate I got. They denied hitting me and my insurers spent a year investigating only to conclude that his van was in such poor condition it was impossible to prove he had causes the damage to my vehicle. I stupidly didn't check for cctv. It is now recorded as a fault claim on my part so my insurance will be sky high when I renew it. It's a pretty shit system really.
