Hi - I have to take a photo for my work id badge and intranet. It was my first day yesterday, am v jet lagged so look pasty white and had big brown bags under eyes. I’ve asked to do a photo on the weekend to supply. I’m naturally ok looking but shit I look bad in pics. PLEASE has anyone got any tips? Make up? Face posture? Hair? Lighting? Argh.

Ring light. £20 off Amazon. Voila

BamBamBilla · 03/11/2022 08:13

Or stand in front of a bright window and save yourself £20.

So it’s all about lighting? In the office I looked ready for burial.

Work photo badges are like passport photos or police mugshots. Everyone looks bad in them.

I would also suggest ring light. They had them in Home Bargains not long ago.
The natural light this last week has been way too gloomy to be any good.

Not true! Some people look magnificent! They are cheating somehow. And also this goes on the intranet so EVERYONE can see 😩

Camera straight on or slightly above your head. Anything else and you get double chins even if you don’t have any!

Yes slightly above is good!

BobbyBobbyBobby · 03/11/2022 08:20

Use an airbrush app?

Yup.
Harsh cold white lighting doesn't help.
For added win my company take a standard photo size, and then stretch it horizontally to fur the square. Brilliant, now we all have fat faces 😂

alwaysmovingforwards · 03/11/2022 08:21

Fit!

TortusMaximus · 03/11/2022 08:22

@alwaysmovingforwards 😂that really takes the biscuit!

I'd probably go to Snappy Snaps and get them to do it with professional lighting and a proper camera. They will take a few and you can choose the best one.

Wear lots of makeup - strong eyebrows and some blusher will give your face some structure, plus under eye concealer.

Choose a colour that suits you next to your face ie not a black top/scarf (unless that happens to make you look amazing)

Take a hairbrush with you for a last minute once over.

Smize and don't be scared to close your jaws differently if you have any uneveness or lopsided mouth. Open your eyes really really widely and look all around it will help your eyes look awake and alert. Sort of like a stretch for your eyeballs. Put blusher on, curl your top eyelashes. Definitely try different lighting.

AdoreAdoor · 03/11/2022 08:23

I meant do the eyeball stretch BEFORE taking the pic otherwise you'd probably end up looking scary haha.

HeyMicky · 03/11/2022 09:29

If you're doing it yourself at home then you can use all the tricks. Do some proper makeup, a little contour under the cheekbones, some eye make up. Then use a VERY LIGHT photo filter and take the photo is bright daylight

ChakaKhanfan · 03/11/2022 09:32

Point your chin out slightly, elongates the neck and stops double chins.
I hate work photos as well, I always look dumpy and a little bit like I’m mid stroke. I work alone now so no one has to see me, not even on zoom 😂

Haaa! Right, photo is my task for the weekend. Very excited to see how it turns out (a potato with earrings probably!) Thanks for all the tips, going to try them all. Especially the eye stretch!
