What’s it like having two dogs versus one?

Hi,

I am considering adopting a second dog. Other than cost, would you say it’s much more work having two versus one?

Thanks!

I didn’t find 2 dogs any harder and it’s better for them to have company when you’re not there too.
The only time it could possibly be tricky if either one of them is not good at walking nicely when on the leads - but that’s a training thing, hopefully easily solved.

@StrangerOnline Thank you for your input! My current dog walks very well. The one I am considering apparently has never used a lead so no idea how she’d be, I would probably get a trainer in for her. I can imagine having two pulling dogs would be tricky!

Depends how they get on together. If your existing dog is sociable, seeks out and enjoys other dogs’ company, that’s a good start.
I would not take on a second without letting them meet and watching interactions. Also, think about the sexes - 2 males, one of each etc.
I have 2 , and they are inseparable , one male, one female. I had the chance to let them walk/ interact together before deciding, and glad I did.

We only ever have pairs or more. No more difficult just costs more. Food, insurance, daycare, kennels, vets bills, toys ,treats.Lots of fun though!

@Trulyweird1 It is a good point. My current dog is very sociable and I think would enjoy having another dog. The rescue requires both dogs to meet beforehand as well. I’m my case it would be two females.

I love having more than one dog. More poo to clear up but that’s not much of an issue.
