First phone for DC

My DC is turning 11 soon and is desperate for a phone. I feel pretty clueless about which one to get them, how to keep them safe, do I go for sim only vs contract.

I have an old iPhone that I will use until it dies. I'm not particularly tech-savvy.

Could someone help me out with some advice please!

I got DD1 an iPhone 11 last year, linked to my Apple account so I can track her (if needed), she also needs my approval before downloading anything from the App Store. I can also limit her screen time.

I opted for a contract with unlimited internet, as I didn't want to end up with a Daily Mail sad face because she spent £50,000 on an app and I had to sell my house.

I put a £0 extra spend cap on too.

Find out if they want an apple phone first. They might feel strongly against apple.

If they do a reconditioned iPhone 10 or 11 would be good.

Also depends how careful they are. Maybe an 8?

If not plenty of cheaper android alternatives.
