Work making me ill

Our team has a bad manager. 4 permanent members of staff have left within 9 months and 3 temps who were covering the positions have left too. The manager shouts at people and refuses to listen to concerns. The manager has given me a task to do for his friends in another team. I have told the manager I am at fully capacity many times but he said it is not up for discussion. His friends who should be doing the task I have to watch walk round the office laughing and joking for long periods of time not doing any work and always on their personal mobile phones.

The manager is on my case now as the work involves liaising with external agencies who are now charging late payment fees as the work as not been done. A director is having a meeting with the team next week and has said it is a briefing so I don't know what that will be about. I feel like ringing in sick because this manager won't help me but at the same time I feel like emailing why can't I get help when I am having to also cover members of staff who have left while we get replacements and doing other people works while they laugh, joke and use their phones. I feel tired and drained and dread next week when the final member of staff leaves as they have been a solid team member over the years and had enough. I don't know what to do.

Maybe go to his immediate superior or human resources? Surely he must know he is the reason people are leaving? I left a job because of a manager and in the year previous five members of staff left citing him as a reason.

Get a new job

so many things you could try but it sounds shit and that won’t change fast

Just dreading it tomorrow as I know he will try and gaslight me in an email while the lazy colleagues will be there be busy doing nothing.
