Where can I make friends?

Moved 6 years ago and worked as a Nanny part time so only made one friend in that time who has since moved away.

Retired with ill health in the summer and find myself at home on my own all the time while DH works.

Live in a tiny village and have tried the local meet and greet club, but as I'm not 75 feel a bit out of the clientele.

Have always had younger friends as have always worked with young children so seem to get on with them better, but now I'm 62 and a 30 year old Mum and I wouldnt have much in common.

I tried a knitting club as I knit a lot but again found the age group a lot older.

I swim twice a week and thought I would meet people there but yet again all the day time swimmers seem to be so much older.

Where oh where would you suggest?

Voluntary work.

This is where MN had sadly not done as well as it maybe could have and that is local meet ups. There was a local meet up board, no idea if it’s still on this site.

I am 56 so in your demographic and am also retired early, most of my friends still work so I also have lots of time in the day. I do voluntary work one day a week and joined meet up, and go along to a walking group sometimes.

Unfortunately I am now disabled so volunteering isn't so easy. I did think of asking at the local library if they woukd like me to do a Rhyme Time or something as I've worked with children for 40 years, but I have just seen they already have one .

Is there any local book clubs you could try joining? My local one has all ages from 20 to 80.
