...am I likely to receive a reminder or will they just give up?

You’ll get a reminder. You could get fined £1000 or a visit from the police if you’re selected but ignore the second letter.

A reminder and a fine, I think? You can't just ignore it.

Kingoftheroad · 02/11/2022 08:56

No reminder - they’ll just put your name back into the system and you’ll be selected again soon

Nathalie1975 · 02/11/2022 09:00

They would have to prove I received the letters presumably. I was hoping to hear from people who have ignored the first letter. At the back of the citation it says "you may receive a reminder". So I was wondering if in practice they do send reminders or if they just leave it if enough people have responded.

@Kingoftheroad Thanks. That's what I thought.

Also, they’re not sent recorded in Scottish anymore

Nathalie1975 · 02/11/2022 09:06

@Kingoftheroad No, so that makes it difficult for them to fine people if they can't prove the letters were received.

I’m not in Scotland but I did this and got no reminders or anything.
I am not saying the same will happen for you but that was my experience

When I was last on jury duty, a list of non attendees was given to the police on duty (not sure what they did about it though)

Twiggywinkle13 · 02/11/2022 09:39

You’ll be sent a reminder, if you’re selected and not there you will likely be fined and a warrant for your arrest issued.

Its your civic duty to attend jury service, if you can’t attend, you can ask for it to be deferred.

Those may well have been people who acknowledged the letter but didn’t turn up.
My research showed that while they WILL pursue people who don’t turn up they don’t bother if you don’t even acknowledge the letter
Of course, this was just my experience and holds no guarantees for anyone else

Nathalie1975 · 02/11/2022 12:26

I think I will ignore it this time. I will respond to the reminder if I ever get one though.

I was cited recently in Scotland. Even with a doctor’s letter establishing grounds for exemption I got a follow up letter. You’d be foolish to ignore it. If you have a reason not to do it let them know.
