What do you do on the dark winter nights?

Currently waiting impatiently for the wax in old candle jars to melt. Then going to wash them and make fresh Christmas/winter candles. Thats my thing for tonight.

Just being nosy really and hopefully can pick up some things to do that I hadn't thought about.

What do you do to pass the long dark winter nights?

Cross stitch.
Read insane amounts of fanfic

Babdoc · 01/11/2022 17:50

I haunt the local bridge club, playing in tournaments! Apart from Monday nights - table tennis - and some weekends - concerts and theatre. I’m going to a John Denver tribute this Friday night.

Mushroo · 01/11/2022 17:53

Cinema on a Monday (I have an unlimited monthly ticket).
Tuesday TV and chill
weds pub quiz
Thursday tv and chill, maybe a yoga class
Friday a mix of seeing friends, pub, movie night.

The same as I do in summer really!

Bestcatmum · 01/11/2022 17:54

I'm building a dollshouse and I read a lot. My cats like to snuggle so I can't move at the moment.

NukaColaQuantum · 01/11/2022 17:55

The same as I do in summer.

Read, knit, piss about online. From about 8pm onwards as that’s when youngest DD is asleep.

Single parent. Teen DDs are either out or studying or have friends over.

OldTinHat · 01/11/2022 18:03

Knitting. Just random scarf knitting that I donate because it stops me eating all the time!

The wool is actually cheaper than food, btw!

Oblomov22 · 01/11/2022 18:03

I do nothing. I MN. Dh sits and watches football. Both very happy.

Gatekeeper · 01/11/2022 18:04

Since hrt has properly kicked in I am mostly leering at dh

Rachaelrachael · 01/11/2022 18:09

Trying to convince my toddlers to go to sleep, then finally eat something myself, clean up all the peppa pig shite that's littered through every room then pass out 😂
Everyone else's evenings sound much more fun than mine!

DutchessOfMuck · 01/11/2022 18:44

@ThatsRoughBuddy what's Fanfic?

@Babdoc that sounds great. You have reminded me that I bought a book on how to play bridge during lockdown. I totally couldn't understand it though. You must be very clever.

@Mushroo you are living my life 😁 I live really rural so nothing to do except stay home.

@Bestcatmum aww so cute, I love cats. I am just getting back into reading after losing the ability during covid. My mind just couldn't concentrate on the words. Started the midnight library last week.

@NukaColaQuantum knitting sounds good. What items do you knit?

@OldTinHat 😂😂😂 I should definitely look into knitting then as I am snacking so much 😳

@Oblomov22 sounds like contented bliss. I am a fidget so like to move about, be active. Saying that I've just joined Tick Tock what a time sucker that is 😂

@Gatekeeper early nights in your house then 😉

@Rachaelrachael I remember those days 💐 sometimes I would just say fuck it and leave the mess and do something just for me. Sometimes reads as often 😂

Think I will start YouTube yoga and small dumbbell workouts again.

Walk the dog, spend too much time on MN, tidy the house, get ready for work the next day, take DS to his various sports things, meet friends occasionally. Exactly the same as the rest of the year, but with warmer clothes.

Jampage · 01/11/2022 18:58

I do my hobbies. I have prepared well for this winter so I have loads of fun things to do.

wtfisgoingonhere21 · 01/11/2022 18:59

Put my comfies and oodie on as soon as humanly possible after getting in from work and then potter around sorting food. (Dc older and teens so they eat when they want now )

Sort dishwasher maybe put a load of washing in empty the recycling. Dh works nights so we always sit down together and watch something and chat for an hour before he goes to work.

Last night I did a foot spa and toe nail paint and had a lovely long shower and hair mask while listening to a good podcast.

Tonight il be in front the tv with my late supper wrapped up with the dogs

Tomorrow dropping off and picking up dc from various places.

Work late on a Thursday so flop in front of tv

Fridays normally get the uniforms washed and go to a friends for coffee catch and and then business paperwork

In the summer I'm sat outside listening to podcasts and reading and pootling till the sun goes down.
I miss them evenings already

wtfisgoingonhere21 · 01/11/2022 19:00

Been listening to a hypno therapy app to aid giving up smoking and the next one to make healthier food choices.

Do the odd yoga with Adrienne if I can be arsed

TheForests · 01/11/2022 19:02

I play football in the cold and rain (3 nights)
Or play chess online
Or have a bath
Or run kids around to clubs

Shodan · 01/11/2022 19:11

Karate, choir, reading, browse the internet for Christmas presents/builders/curtains/whatever else needs doing, have long hot baths, do a Spanish lesson, household chores, light a fire and roast chestnuts, or do another crafty thing like quilling or candle making.

Sometimes I have a little nap too😁

RockAndRollerskate · 01/11/2022 19:12

I’ve got a baby and toddler and work almost full time.
I’m mostly just happy to have made it through another day! I do a bit of tidying round and watch strictly one episode of something before collapsing in bed ready for the night wakings…

elephantseal · 01/11/2022 19:12

Gatekeeper · 01/11/2022 18:04

😂😂😂 Glad it's working so well!

elephantseal · 01/11/2022 19:14

Some really good ideas here! We go for a walk every eve after work in the summer and I'm missing that. Might have to start going for a lunchtime walk instead.

PinkSyCo · 01/11/2022 19:19

Watch tv, play on my phone and eat chocolate.

LadyHelenaJustina · 01/11/2022 19:23

Work, cook, look through cookery books and plan meals, Duolingo, listen to podcasts and audiobooks, do the washing, iron, do jigsaw puzzles, write, spend too much time on Twitter and Mumsnet, read books and magazines, do my Christmas shopping, plan my garden, watch TV...

Gatekeeper · 01/11/2022 20:36

elephantseal · 01/11/2022 19:12

😂😂😂 Glad it's working so well!

too well...he's started to avoid me!

DutchessOfMuck · 01/11/2022 21:01

Lots of great things here to add to my list. Thank you all so much. I am one of those people that like to try new things and hop about them when the mood strikes.

Great tip about moving walks from evening to lunchtime.

RuthW · 01/11/2022 21:06

Exactly the same as the rest of the year.

Imissmoominmama · 01/11/2022 21:16

I go to the cinema one night a week with a friend, and perhaps one night out with either DH, or other friends. I like to cook, so one evening I make meals or soups for the fridge or freezer.

Most evenings, I walk the dogs by the river, with a head torch on.

Sometimes I meet walking friends to go up local fells. I also do torchlight swims with a group in the river. That’s not every week though.

I also like reading and coming on MN. Not much into TV though.
