Anyone familiar with the area around London excel?

I'm due at an event at excel next week and my train to London is cancelled for Sunday, and a strike announced for Wednesday when I'm due to return. Looks like I'll have to drive but my hotel seems to have no onsite parking (Courtyard by Marriot).
Does anyone know of easy to access parking nearby that won't seemed stuck in traffic leaving on Wednesday? Possibly somewhere just outside the area I can leave my car for a few days and tube/ uber in?
Thanks in advance!

Where will you be driving from? You could park at Stratford International and take the DLR to Excel (change at Canning Town). Or there is a car park at Excel itself.

There’s a massive car park on top of excel, which might be your easiest bet, but I’ve never driven there so can’t vouch for the journey.

Usually it’s best to drive to a far-out tube/DLR station, and then tube in.

AriettyHomily · 01/11/2022 16:27

Its going to be a mess. I'm supposed to be going to Birmingham, Leeds and back to London but I'm about to pull the plug. There is a huge car park at Excel though.

Where are you coming from, I've parked near Brent Cross in the past and tubed across

EnglishGirlApproximately · 01/11/2022 17:05

I'm travelling from Nottingham so hoping to make the journey home easy. Worried that parking at excel is going to see me stuck in traffic for ages when the even finishes on Wednesday. I'll look into Brent Cross see if that looks doable.

Try JustPark for a private parking space further out and tube/Uber in?

Weefreetiffany · 01/11/2022 17:17

The excel centre has a car park. It’s something ridiculous like £20 a day but you can park there for sure

EnglishGirlApproximately · 01/11/2022 17:20

I don't mind the cost as I'm there with work so they will pay, more wanting to avoid traffic chaos before a long drive home! Looking at Brent Cross I guess that would be tube then DLR?

I think parking at Excel has to be booked in advance.

BluOcty · 01/11/2022 17:24

Getting from Excel to Brent Cross would take at least an hour so do factor that into your calculations.

Park at Gallions Reach shopping area - park in the car park at the beach of Tesco Petrol station. Take the bus or the DLR to Excel from there it’s about 10 mins
. parking is free

Soontobe60 · 01/11/2022 17:25

Do you mean the City Airport Courtyard hotel? If so, they do offsite car parking for £15 a day.

Back of Tescos

EnglishGirlApproximately · 01/11/2022 17:27

@Soontobe60 yes thats the one. I'm worried about it being full when I arrive so wanted to either prebook something or park further out ideally. Do you know the area? I'm thinking about booking parking at the Airport maybe?

IIRC It's just a normal supermarket car park (not enclosed), we have parked at Galleons reach lots of times though and it's been fine.

Bluebellsand · 01/11/2022 17:30

I already live in Newham, but I have previously just parked in Stratford South East area and paid by phone, for the 2hr required. I never, gone by car during event days, so I can't tell you if there will be an event then or not. Because event days you can't stay as long.

Here is the website for newham parking.

Girasoli · 01/11/2022 17:33

Although, I'm not sure if it's open overnight!

If you phone the hotel I’m sure they will be able to help regarding parking. Its about a 10 minute walk to the ExCel centre.

ScarletWitchM · 01/11/2022 19:31

It’s not enclosed or patrolled but I’ve never had any issues there

Pinkcadillac · 01/11/2022 20:30

You'll be taking the M1 so parking at Watford could also be an option. There is a car park close to the tube station. You can take the Metropolitan Line to Liverpool Street and then the Elizabeth line. It should take around 1,30 h from Watfod to Excel, I guess.
