Another thread about Cadburys chocolate

I was browsing my phone when I couldn't sleep in the middle of the night and this story came up on my Facebook feed

sorry, yes it is the Scum.

But the representative from Cadburys is quoted as saying that the recipe has not changed in 200 years! He's a little liar isn't he??

We've had countless threads on MN about the changed taste of Cadbury chocolate since it was bought out.

I don't know what to think now.

P.S. I never buy or eat the stuff so don't feel qualified to comment, but would love to hear your thoughts if you think there's something off about this.

Dairy milk hasn't changed.
It's the chocolate that they use for everything else that tastes weird now.

britneyisfree · 01/11/2022 08:23

Maybe the recipe is the same but the ratios are completely different.

It tastes like plastic nowSad

newnamethanks · 01/11/2022 09:02

Well, if it hasn't changed, I must have done. It's horrible now and I would definitely go without chocolate rather than eat it. Maybe we've just got a much wider range of nicer chocolate to choose from these days.

Don’t they use palm oil now which they didn’t used to?

in my book that’s a change. Cadburys will probably gas light everyone and say it’s “fats”. So that swapping one fat for another isn’t a change in their book.

A580Hojas · 01/11/2022 12:37

I thought I wasn't imagining it! The changed taste has been much discussed in MN land. I think that "gas lighting" is a very polite way of putting it, more like a blatant lie in my opinion.

Definitely lies. It was my favourite chocolate. It tastes plasticky now. Palm oil.

EVHead · 01/11/2022 12:43

It’s inedible now.

FartOutLoudDay · 01/11/2022 12:44

Irish Cadbury’s still tastes like proper Cadbury’s. Going to take an English bar next time I’m there and do a blind taste test to confirm!

ReallyShouldBeDoingSomethingElse · 01/11/2022 13:19

I'd put money on it that they didn't use shea nut butter in the 80s...

BobbyBobbyBobby · 01/11/2022 13:52

Cadbury’s say this -

‘Although the recipe and ingredients for our chocolates are always controlled to tight recipe standards, on occasions ingredients are sourced from different areas, and milk particularly can taste differently when bought from different areas of the country.’

WitchyOsmansXraySpectre · 01/11/2022 14:21

Lying fuckers.

We all know they use palm oil now which they never use to - so that's one thing that has definitely changed!!!

You've changed Cadbury's and it ain't the milk!!!! 😡

howaboutchocolate · 01/11/2022 14:31

Lies.
They used to use cocoa butter and not palm oil and shea butter. Cocoa butter tastes like cocoa, palm oil is horrible.
I'm pretty sure they weren't using chemically derived emulsifiers and "flavourings" 200 years ago either.
