They are very cautious of anything new as lots of things eat rats! My dog used to bark if one of us was wearing a hat.

Maybe they could smell something? i had rats for years and remember returning home one day after briefly visiting a friend who had cats, went to get my gang out for free roam time and they went ballistic! Only calmed down after id showered and changed.

I used to have German Shepherds many years ago. They were very protective. Once on a whim I wore my very long hair up. I came downstairs and both immediately charged aggressively at me as if I was an intruder and stopped dead in their tracks when I spoke!

I was wearing my usual clothes and the only difference was my hair was up.

They looked bewildered!

We’ve had family dogs who go crackers if I have my hair up in a towel - barking like they had seen a terrible intruder.
maybe your rat sensed or smelt something odd?

i think it was just the jacket that spooked her for some reason as soon as i took it off she came straight up to me i cant see it being a smell cause surely it would be on me not just the jacket it was the look on her face like nope not going near u with that on or she wasnt sure about me when i was wearing it for some reason and she backed away then jumped up side of cage when i took it off and went back over

Totally. I have pet rats and one in particular freaks out at pretty much anything including different or strange clothes!

Ours went crazy at people wearing hats. There was an incident in the woods with cyclists wearing helmets one day, one dog had a meltdown! Funny little boy.
