Age rating for beds

After a bit of advice about beds. Looking at a single bed for my 5 year old DS but the one I fancy is saying not suitable for under 12s. I can't see any reason, ie not high, no bars etc. Can anyone with more knowledge of this tell me about age ratings for beds? Thanks.

Maybe post a link so someone could have a look and see possible reasons?
Does it come with mattress included, could the type of/suitability of the mattress be the reason?

It's this sort of thing. Don't want to post the actual one as it's on sale 😁

The mattress that comes with it talks about being suitable for children. I've messaged the company but just wondered if anyone would know off the top of their head. John Lewis describes their beds as child compliant so I must be missing something (one I'm looking at isn't John Lewis).

I wonder if it’s to do with the slats and the spacing? Maybe a risk of trapping and strangulation if the mattress slips and a young child’s head fits between the slats or something.

Hmm... that might be it. I've just compared the spacing between the habitat one and the John Lewis child compliant one and the spacing on the slats is smaller on John Lewis. The bed I like doesn't have any pictures of the slats so will have to speak to someone directly to find out. Thanks - didn't think of that. 👍

Could you buy the one you like and add some extra slats? My husband has done that a lot over the years with 4 boys using their beds as trampolines!

Yes, might be worth thinking about something like that.

The children's bed regs changed a couple of years ago. It's to do with spacing of slats and rails and all the places that you can wedge your head and then suffocate.
