Help needed with old version Kindle

I have a Kindle bought in 2010 which I love and is great. However I can no longer purchase books from the Kindle store on it - it is apparently too old. Is there any way that I can add new books to my Kindle or is it time to upgrade 🥲?

Amazon do trade in deals on old kindles. You wouldn't get much but worth a look.

Oh ok. I didn’t know that. Thank you

Can you buy them on amazon and have them delivered to your kindle library? My app recently stopped in app purchases and that is how I do it to my tablet and phone....if anyone knows how to reinstate in app purchases, advice welcome!

You can order via the Amazon website and manage your Kindle library so it goes to the device. It is only that you can no longer order direct from the device.

What @LIZS said, I don't have a kindle, but use the app on my Samsung tablet and phone and sadly that's the way I have to do it now, unless its free books via prime, those the app still supports.

Mine is ancient and I hardly ever buy from the Kindle device itself, just press buy/borrow on Amazon and it gets delivered right away. I have always hated browsing on the Kindle, reading reviews etc is easier on my tablet.

You can transfer the files via usb if your internet on it is no longer supported. Or order via the amazon page online and deliver to device

MaggieFS · 31/10/2022 14:59

Oh no! Mine must be about the same age and I haven't been able to connect for wifi for ages and it's on my to do list to get it fixed. Have they just given up on them now?

If I get a new one, will all of my old books be able to transfer over?

Makemedoit · 31/10/2022 15:05

Thanks everyone. Will try buying from my phone app

@MaggieFS think so. They remain on your Amazon account so you can download them onto a linked device.

murasaki · 31/10/2022 15:31

@MaggieFS if you log in on a new device they should be in your library. Worked for me with the app when I changed tablets. I just logged in with my Amazon credentials

If you trade in your kindle to upgrade Amazon will give you a decent price and you'll also get a money off voucher.

Mosik · 31/10/2022 16:29

@MaggieFS Go onto Amazon on a computer and look at My content.
It's much easier to organise books on there and it will automatically update your kindle.
