Recommendations for new internet bank account?

Like most people we just have the same bank accounts with the banks that were set up when we were kids. So now I feel like failing as an adult to setting up a new bank account 😂 Want to set up a new joint bank account, anyway to do this online without having to find an open bank which don’t seem to exist around here.

Starling. Download the app and it's open straight away. They'll send you a card in the post in a few days.

I really like startling and it's the only one of the new banks to have some sort of protection that is really important t to have (But I can't remember what that is but can remember Monzo doesn't have it)

I like Chase, they give you 1% cash back on most purchases for the first year.

While I like Starling, can't you open an account online with any bank of your choosing?

To add, you can pay in cash into many banks at the Post Office and pay cheques in virtually, so it's possible to run a bank account without ever having to visit a branch.

Would have gone with Starling but they turned down DH - no idea why as he’s a high earner with a good credit record

Chase don't offer joint accounts I don't think?

We also have a joint account with Starling, which I've no complaints about.

I can't remember the last time I had to go in person to open a bank account, even with the standard banks. Lots of good switching incentives at the moment - I think nationwide might be the best? £200 and an account that offers 5% interest.

Starling. We needed a new joint account during Covid and Lloyds were a nightmare so we opened an account with Starling. I love it so much, I’ve switched all of our accounts to them now.

Had a look at the MSE offers, not looking to switch direct debits just move money to another person, so will do Starling, thanks again.

Love Monzo and my husband's with Starling so would recommend either of those.

Eh? Your OP said you want to open a new bank account. Can't you move money to another person with your existing account?

@WarblingEttie the MSE said to get the £200 free cash etc you needed to set up 2 direct debits to pay bills/utilities etc. I’m not looking to do that from this account.

It was on Rip Off Britain and it was the FSC protection which means if your bank collapses your money is safe (up to £75K). The others didn't have it at the time of airing so if they folded your money had gone.

@WarblingEttie yes thanks, you were the one who didn’t seem happy about my asking the internet of helpful people advice and happy that I received helpful advice and my posting my gratefulness.
@Pixiedust1234 was that starling or monza that wasn’t protected?

I'm sure that both Starling and Monzo has the protection because irs part of the banking licence conditions I think.

Perhaps they were talking about Revolut, which is similar but they're not strictly a bank with current and savings accounts, its a slightly different product.
