Mobile phone help - Samsung A53

I would appreciate some help please. I’m not knowledgeable about phones!

Ds (16) could do with a new phone. He has a Huawei he’s had for a good few years which is getting a bit past it. He wouldn’t dream of asking for a new one and I thought I might surprise him with one at Christmas. He doesn’t use a phone loads and has absolutely no interest in brands or what is fashionable.

Uses would be mainly some WhatsApp etc, bit of YouTube and bit of use for school stuff. Main requirement is decent camera as he takes pics for coursework on it.

I have been having a look and the Samsung A53 looked like a possibility.

I was just wondering if someone who has one or knows more about it could give their opinion or suggest something better.

That's the model I have - it's great. Very user friendly. I always have had Samsung S model phones (last one was an S8) but they've got too expensive now so decided to drop to an A model on upgrade and to be perfectly honest, it seems exactly the same! Decent battery life, plenty of internal storage and good cameras - front and back facing. It probably does a lot more than I actually use it for.

Ive got the A52. Brilliant phone, fantastic battery life, superb camera and does everything I need.

It's quite a recent model too so there would still be frequent system updates from Samsung for a few years

Just looked, the A53 is the replacement for the A52 and has slightly better spec. Altho apparently doesnt have a headphone socket, if thats going to be an issue?

8 years in phone industry would say a great phone choice! Good camera, good battery life and looks very similar to the s22!

Oh yes you're right, that's a very good point. You can get an adapter for it though which goes into the charger slot.

That'll be a pain for me as I use the lead to plug into my car, but will support bluetooth headphones anyway.

Samsung are currently offering £100 off the A53 if you trade in an old phone - might be worth checking out?

Oh and it won't come with a plug. It's a type c on both ends so worth getting a plug that's type c connection unless you have one already

Samsung also do an app which literally moves everything from your old phone to your new one.
