Your favourite way to 'recharge'

redjoker · 29/10/2022 18:23

Nearly said 'self care' but then cringed.

When you get a moments peace what do you do to help yourself recharge? (when at home)

I clean. Alot. And then if I'm done I kind of run out ideas and feel a bit sort of like a spare part in my own house

Having a stressful week and have cleaned the house top to bottom which I really enjoyed. All my candles are on. House is warm and glowy.

Find TV a bit dull at the moment (can't watch strictly without my OH so I record it!)

What do you get up to? And seperate to that, what do you do if you are really stressed and need to reset?

Drink wine usually but I’ve joined a gym so hoping I turn to that instead 🤣

changer121 · 29/10/2022 18:32

I tend to -

have a lovely hot bath , with a glass of wine and read my book .

Go for a walk in the woods with dh

Read mumsnet

Chill and chat with dd

Have a cuddle with the cat

Bailey's hot chocolate, a fire and a lovely movie with dd or dh or alone depending on circumstances

Sit in the sun with my book

These things all recharge me and make me feel happy

BayCityTrollers · 29/10/2022 18:33

To be honest, at home for me it probably is just a glass of wine, only Friday and Saturday nights though! I try to crochet but struggle with concentration when work is kicking my arse.

My real recharge is going away for a night or 2. Normally one night with DH, premier inn usually, some sightseeing and seaside. I come back feeling really refreshed.

Unfortunately with both dses now at university and a needy cat, it won’t be as regular as I’d like.

Sparklingbrook · 29/10/2022 18:33

Drink wine and turn the music up loud.

Sunshineandrainbow · 29/10/2022 18:35

Baileys hot choc sounds amazing I must try this.

I lay on the sofa watching TV or crochet

CakeCrumbs44 · 29/10/2022 18:35

I can't think of anything less relaxing than cleaning.

I would put candles on, hot chocolate, warm blanket and read a romance novel.

Alternatively go to bed and spend a bit of time with my vibrator 🤣

CakeCrumbs44 · 29/10/2022 18:36

In the summer I get a milkshake and a bacon sandwich from the cafe, walk and sit in the cathedral grounds where it's pretty and quiet and read there.

cookiecreammmpie · 29/10/2022 18:38

I either have a bottle of wine and blast some music out. Or have a hot bath, go to bed early and read a box or watch something on telly. Depends how tired I am. I love scented candles too.

Sparklingbrook · 29/10/2022 18:38

I know the OP said ‘when at home’ but a two night stay in a nice hotel usually does the trick.

BobbyBobbyBobby · 29/10/2022 18:38

I have a nap every day. Usually twenty minutes but sometimes longer and I feel great afterwards.

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 29/10/2022 18:39

I do something I don’t have to think about, but I do need to concentrate on. Currently crystal art sets fulfils this need. It needs no real thought yet you do have to concentrate just enough that you plonk the right colour in the right square, it’s just enough concentration that I don’t have the ability to think about other things, yet so little it allows my mind to stretch and unwind iyswim.

devildeepbluesea · 29/10/2022 18:40

Walk the dog.
Drink wine.
Watch 80s telly.
Lie on my bed and listen to an audiobook.

cookiecreammmpie · 29/10/2022 18:41

And always masturbate. I find orgasm is the best way for body and mind relaxation.

Doje · 29/10/2022 18:41

I have a looong run in the woods with the dog.

And then sit on my arse and binge watch Greys Anatomy (or similar) whilst eating crap on the sofa for hours.

BCBird · 29/10/2022 18:45

Cleaning to relax-never🤣I eat something nice, read,go for a walk or listen to music. Vibrator sometimes gets an outing too🤣

redjoker · 29/10/2022 18:45

Cleaning is like therpy for me and really it's the clean house that I enjoy more. It really comforts me. And resets me.

Currently I'm finding a hot shower and my fav 'this works' leg oil a little bit of me time.

I also drink mead which I'm sure sounds very old fashioned but love the stuff

I find it very hard to sit and watch TV because I feel like i should 'be doing something' and find shaking that feeling very hard

I'm trying to learn embroidery and it's very restful. I can listen to an audio book at the same time. Bliss!

BamBamBilla · 29/10/2022 19:14

Find a hiking route that is kind of off the beaten track on a overcast day so there's less chance if crossing paths with anyone. Hopefully if I've planned it well the route is down in a valley out of the wind and I stand absolutely still close my eyes and listen to absolute silence. No noise, no wind, no movement its the only time I can turn my brain off for a couple of minutes. It clears my tinnitus too.

irrrannuu · 29/10/2022 19:21

Go for an outside swim, even in winter, gardening/allotment, painting, listening to a podcast whilst resting, listen and buy new music online, sometimes reading.

Definitely not socialising or drinking wine. I like these things but they leave me exhausted so definitely not good for a recharge.

Decafflatteplease · 29/10/2022 19:23

Bath, gin and book, my little midweek ritual and I love it. Especially in winter when it's all dark. I have a camping lantern to make it semi dark but bright enough to read.

Swimming, or gym. Clears my head all I think about is getting to the next length / mile / minute

MovingOnUpp · 29/10/2022 19:26

Binge watch a series, ideally foreign with subtitles so I can’t go on my phone at the same time. P.J’s and candles on.

Go to the cinema

or

Go to the spa.

MysweetAudrina · 29/10/2022 19:26

I just spent a lovely day at a yoga retreat. 2hrs restorative yoga, light lunch, cacao ceremony and 2 hour meditation. Lots of journaling, card reading, reiki and massage during the practice too.

redjoker · 29/10/2022 19:28

I'd also like to throw freshly washed Pjs and freshly washed dressing gown in

But then I have always been old before my time!

I walk, trying to go down paths that have been joyful in the past.
I cook, like a banshee, making meals for my freezer or my dads.
