Are Apple Watches any good?

Thinking of getting one, I like the look of the fitness stuff, hoping it might motivate me to do some exercise.
What else are they good for? Are they worth the money? I have a Fitbit and find it a bit pants

Yes they’re amazing. I initially bought one for fitness and then when I got pregnant the heart rate monitor picked up that my heart rate was insanely fast and turns out I had blood clots in my lungs!! Wouldn’t have sought medical help if it wasn’t for the watch. Literally saved my life. Buy one now

@Lmgify aw wow, that's amazing, hope you're ok now!
Which version would you recommend?

Mine was about three years old. I would say any of them with the heart rate monitor is worth considering.

I’m on my second one, I had a series 1 and now have a series 6.
I love mine and use it when swimming etc.

feckingknackered · 28/10/2022 20:46

@MrsPnut that's fab, I want to go swimming again, would I be able to connect it to earphones to listen to music during a swim? (Are there waterproof earphones?)

OP posts:
MrsPnut · 28/10/2022 20:49

I don’t use waterproof headphones but you can connect them to the watch.

PurplePetalPip · 28/10/2022 20:54

I'm another big fan, had the series 2 for years and have just upgraded to the series 7. They are just so functional. If you like the iPhone, you will love the watch. The fitness tracking is really good plus you can see all your messages, notifications etc on the watch if your phone is in another room or you're in a meeting for instance.

feckingknackered · 28/10/2022 20:56

@PurplePetalPip think I'm sold! Is there much of a difference between the 7 and the brand new one does anyone know?

I have a 7 @ 41mm so it’s fairly slim and not big and bulky

I changed the strap and face cover and it looks really swish 😂
it’s great for connecting to my phone getting messages and cutting my phone off if I don’t want to talk to anyone

I don’t use as a fitness monitor I used it as a watch / phone mainly
I even have my ring doorbell on it

The only thing I don’t like is the battery life is shut and you have to charge it pretty much every day .

I bought my niece the same watch for her birthday a few months ago and she is well impressed with it so if a 14 year old likes them you know it’s pretty decent and cool 😂

WithIcePlease · 28/10/2022 21:02

I love mine. First one lasted 5 years or so and replaced immediately it gave up
Great for recording exercise, steps and heart rate. Really handy for paying without furtling in bag/pockets. Also checking who is calling or texting when you are out and about and deciding whether to answer or not without inconvenience
And you can always find your phone!

Menopants · 28/10/2022 21:03

I think the garmin watches are much better value

bruffin · 28/10/2022 21:08

I have a samsung 4 which is great for swimming but use

this for music while swimming finis duo mp3

Hugasauras · 28/10/2022 21:10

I love mine. I have the 8 41mm and I use it for loads. Fitness stuff, paying for things, I get my WhatsApp messages and emails and stuff on it, it tracks my sleep (good for seeing how many times baby DD wakes up!), obviously I can see the time easily at any time in the night.

feckingknackered · 28/10/2022 21:32

All great information thank you

Where did you buy your strap from?

PollyEsther · 28/10/2022 21:44

I was sceptical, but DH bought me one a few christmases ago. I love it. It’s worth every penny!

CoopersChase · 28/10/2022 22:05

Big fan here, had one 2 years. V happy.

LondonQueen · 28/10/2022 22:37

I love mine, wouldn't be without it.

Happydays321 · 28/10/2022 22:42

Love mine too, series 3 would replace straightaway if it broke.
Really motivates me to exercise.

bananamum13 · 28/10/2022 22:45

I love mine!!

MigsandTiggs · 28/10/2022 22:50

I have the series 6 and I love it. It records all my gym classes, swims and walks, with my heart rate range, distance and calories used. As I live alone, I initially bought it because if I fall/am in a car crash and don't respond, it will call my emergency contact/emergency services, but it's so much more than that. I can answer calls when I can't find my phone and I like that messages, emails come up on it. Siri is a pain though when it responds to my conversations because I talk with my hands a lot.

I bought the stainless steel model in gold with a gold strap and have my own photos on the watchface. My wrist is very small but the 40mm one is okay and way more elegant than a fitbit. I like the magnetic strap too.
