DS loves maple syrup. He got bought a bottle back from Canada which is nearly empty. He's asked for some for Christmas! He and I know it can be expensive but also know you can buy supermarket own brand. As it's for Christmas I'm happy to spend more if it's worth it. Is it? And if so, tell me what will knock his socks off please 😊

St Lawrence Gold is very good. A litre is about £15 on Amazon.

Another vote for St Lawerence Gold. I got it from Waitrose

I think the darker coloured ones are more 'maple-y' than the lighter ones IME.
The more expensive ones are also "graded" while supermarket own labels may not be.
I"ve bought Buckwud before now and it's nice but not outstanding. I'd go for a dark brown specialist Canadian or Vermont one as it's a gift. Although I see Aldi's own brand is well thought of!

This is what you want. I've done extensive tasting for this very reason. It's showing out of stock online but they usually have it in store.

Billingtons. Very Dark. Assuming he likes the maple-yness

Maple syrup has a grading system - there is quite a lot to it - it's like a DOC product! If maple-y ness isn't his thing then you may need to go lighter.

Thank you all - so much to learn about maple syrup! I'll have a look at the bottle he's almost finished and see what it says re darkness etc. I know he really likes this particular one.
