I just had an eye test and bought new glasses at a large high street chain. During the consultation the optician asked if I received any benefits and I said yes universal credit. She said "oh then you will get the test free and a voucher towards glasses". I said oh no I think I earn too much to qualify and she just smiled and carried on at the computer.
We went downstairs and she handed me over to a colleague and once I had chosen the glasses he added everything up and then said I needed to sign as I was on universal credit. I signed the iPad and then saw he had applied both vouchers. It was our in public so I didn't want to discuss benefits etc so I just paid the bill and presumed they knew more than I did about eligibility.
When I got home I checked and sure enough there is an earnings limit and if checked I could get a fine. What do I do?! Can I call them up and ask them to take the vouchers off?
