Tax question?

Feel like I should know this at my age and can't find anything online that answers this specific question 🙈

I'm hoping to work more hours in the run up to Christmas in my part time job.
Every penny counts at the moment like so many other families.

My work are really good at letting me work my shifts around my dh's so some weeks I can do more than others.

My question is- if I'm paid four weekly does it make any difference to if I pay tax which week I work more hours?
Eg- I could work 50 hours one week which would put me about my personal allowence but only 15 hours the next week which puts me below it. Do I have to pay tax on the 50 hour week or do they average it out over the four weeks?

Tax is worked out over the whole financial year. You might pay proportionally more tax in the weeks you work more, but the tax you pay later on in the tax year will be adjusted to compensate.

However, you will pay more national insurance as that is taken weekly and if your household is entitled to UC then that will be reduced according to published taper rates during each 'month'.

Thank you 😊
No we don't get UC as on paper DH earns too much. It doesn't feel like that at the moment though so I'm really hoping to make up the shortfall we seem to be having.
