Request to GP for coil

I've finally gotten around to asking my GP to have the coil fitted. I've been putting it off for years as I've been through years and years of IVF, plus a complicated twin pregnancy and I'd just had enough of being messed with to be it bluntly.

The message I've had back from the GP is that they have a very long waiting list and instead they've given me a number for the local sexual health clinic who may be able to help.

So my question is has anyone else had the coil fitted at a sexual health clinic? Is this sort of diversion away from the GP normal? If you did use a sexual health clinic was it a good experience or would you persist and wait for your GP?

As a general rule I think the sexual health clinics can be better as they do them more often.

I had mine at the local sexual health clinic, they were fab plus they do them day in day out where as the GP/practise nurse may be trained but just do the odd one now and again.

I used to get mine done at the GP and then they starting referring me to the sexual health clinic which was fine, they did a good job.

The best part was sitting in the waiting area with dozens on teenagers waiting to be treated for the clap, and wondering whether they thought I was there for that too 😀

My GP doesn't do it any more. You have to go to the local Marie Stopes. They were absolutely fine.

I always used to go to GU Med as they were called then. They are the specialists after all!

GP put my last one in and it was a horrific experience - I'll never go to a GP for this again. Stick with the specialist at the sexual health clinics.

I deliberately went to get my coil fitted at the sexual health clinic - figured that they did it far more often than a GP, and were more likely to be experienced.

The dr that did mine was a local GP who worked doing the coil clinics twice a week in the sexual health clinic, so far more experience than the GP at my surgery who did a couple of coil fittings a month (if that).

I think it's becoming more common - means that the surgeries don't have to train someone to do it, and then do it often enough to maintain competency.

I get my coil done at my local clinic (and have done for years) - it is fine - the nurses there fit coils all the time so are v v experienced
