Everyone is different

Doxycycline is the only antibiotic I can take, I am
allergic to everything else

it is also used as a malaria drug

mamacorn1 · 17/01/2024 19:29

I can only use doxy as I am allergic to everything else.

Jadeee123 · 17/01/2024 19:37

How long do they take to kick in do you’s know? Like to see a difference. Sorry I sound like I’m being impatient but I’ve been like this for 8 days now and have 2 young kids to run about after! I’ve only took my 1st dose today xx

@vipersnest1 just to say doxycycline is not a macrolide but a tetracycline-
obviously still possible to be allergic to
both but maybe worth discussing with your doctor if it’s only macrolides you’ve reacted to and not assuming doxycycline is in the same group?

Read the leaflet! I never take a new medication without reading the leaflet first. I’ve just finished a course of doxycycline, clear from the leaflet that you need to take them with food and stay upright for 30 mins afterwards i.e don’t lie down after taking them.

Don’t take doxycycline with any magnesium supplements as magnesium stops it being absorbed

I know people who have had their life changed for the worse by them as it triggered an illness (that doesn’t go away when discontinued) but as a world we’re running out of antibiotics. It would be awful if the world lost an antibiotic, especially one that treats malaria. I found they made me vomit badly if I didn’t take them with food, and a decent amount of food. A small snack wasn’t enough. I don’t know if they did me long term damage or not. I’m still glad the world has them though.
