Oh dear the dreaded fireworks have started

Having a very frightened 45kg dog, he is terrified of fireworks, having the TV up, or radio is no consultation still petrified. I was wondering what I can do apart from putting ear defenders on him, which wouldn’t stay on him. I was speaking to someone on my local group who mentioned these pet head warmer, but ultimately blocks out sound, my boy wouldn’t mind trying one… I do not want him frightened like he was last year. It’s the bangers, getting louder and louder every year, and he is a lovely placid boy. Anyone else tried anything like before?

I have had luck with a Thunder Coat in the past - not specifically for help around fireworks but it has helped to calm eg when travelling. I have, however, more recently read that my dog's quieter presentation is due more to him 'freezing' and I'm not sure if I'm actual fact it does make the dog feel any calmer. He runs off when he sees me getting it out of the cupboard , although will then sit quietly while I put it on him. I can't imagine him being willing to have that hood on.

Regarding the fireworks - if you noted a lot of noise last night in particular I think it was to do with Diwali celebrations rather than the beginning of fireworks every night until after bonfire night weekend . I hope so, anyway .

I have never had any success with the calming sprays and wipes either .

Yes someone else mentioned the celebrations, I should have known as watched it on the news do’h…

I do have some doggy cbd oil so might try that, good for arthritis in dogs and does keep them calm

We just had two of those 'bomb' fireworks go off near us. I don't care what it's for, it's horrible.

I've got a tonne of cat calming meds btw if anyone wants them. Free. I'll post them too. PM me. I've been on here forever.

I’m dreading it again, my cat was trembling when it was thundering at the weekend, I was holding him and I could feel it , he gets so anxious, last year he actually had Diorhea in his litter tray it was so loud.
