Why do Politicians end speeches like that?

The pause and then walking off. It's such a weird way to end a speech. I noticed Rishi doing it last night. He paused and stared in the distance for a few seconds and then walked off. The bit where he was staring looked like the auto queue had stopped. It's so odd. I remember David Cameron doing it as well.

What’s the alternative though? A little nod? I have no idea.

A 'Thank you" and then walk off would be better. No one ends a speech by staring at a few seconds and then storming off.
