Can hear scratching in walls

Upstairs in my bedroom. In the wall that connects to my DS bedroom. Am I kidding myself that it’s not a rodent? Why would they be there? Can’t hear anything anywhere else and no sign of any rodent anywhere. But urgh!!

Could be wasps

Peterpiperpickedapepper · 25/10/2022 10:43

I had this last week! No evidence of anything anywhere. We spent a few evenings bashing on the walls and it seems to have disappeared 😂

That will be mice. You need to work out how they're getting in, they're probably on the loft so get some poison up there.

When we heard it, it was rats. They had got into the cavity wall by digging under soil from a drain pipe where cap had broken. For a while they were only in that one area, then they started to explore and found some gaps in the floorboards in the kitchen - so we’re able to come into living area (look to see if there are any black droppings under kitchen kickboards and make sure all food is in sealed plastic containers). We tried a normal pest control company, but it didn’t work. Then we got Pestology which have expertise in drains, so they did a few different investigations sorted it out. I have known people to see an isolated rodent and no further though - once it was killed in a trap. So there are different possibilities but personally I would get it investigated. Apparently rats often come in via drains or holes in ventilation bricks (they can squeeze into tiny spaces). They can climb up cavity walls and like to make their way to the roof (as warm and dry). But they go back down to the drain for food - so they need to go back and forth - if you block the path, you will get rid of them. Best of luck.

Could be a poltergeist

BadGranny · 25/10/2022 11:08

Also consider squirrels.

Wolves

Mice. Put traps in the loft.

CherrySmiler · 25/10/2022 11:22

We had scratching in ceilings….mice! The traps only worked for so long. We opened the sachets of poison and left two paper plates of it in loft cupboard and went on holiday. Two weeks later, plates emptied and no sign of mice. We only saw a mouse once in the house. They seemed to be confined to between floors and in loft cupboard (we have a loft conversion). No idea how they got in but we are in a terrace and probably moved between houses. We also filled every gap in house with wire wool and put fine metal mesh over air bricks.

Ghosts… if it’s not rodents, it’s actually a common sign of a haunting 👻… And this close to halloween too, what else could it be?? 🤷🏼‍♀️

Strawberrysundaeonamonday · 25/10/2022 14:20

I think it’s likely mice. We had scratching noises in the walls initially and thought it was the neighbours dog, but it felt too close. It took a while until they started appearing. They were running through the walls to the attic.

My friend currently has rats. It was spotted in the kitchen but has also gone up the pipes to the bathroom cupboard where its nibbled toilet roll. I assume fir its nest. Then he went home he'd cooked some burgers which were left on the side till later. You guessed it the burger had disappeared when he went back later 😲😲
