Asking for proof of payment

purpleme12 · 25/10/2022 09:05

Workman did work on our house. Patching up a part of ceiling.
Few hours work. Finished on Saturday.
I sent payment Sunday evening. He messaged on Monday I did say to allow up to the end of Monday if it wasn't in the bank yet (as per the timescale the bank gave)
He's messaged today saying it's not been received and can I send proof of payment 'so he can chase it up'.
I feel like he doesn't believe me.
I've double checked and it's the right details I put in. I'm not worried I'm sure it's going t turn up at some point today for him. I did send the email that the bank sends to me confirming I sent a transfer but I'm not sending him details of my bank. Purely because I want to prove I'm not lying!

Just send a screenshot of the transaction line on your banking with any personal info redacted?

girlmom21 · 25/10/2022 09:08

Go on your banking app and click on the transaction. Why would you not send him your details if you've actually sent him a payment, considering he'd receive them anyway?

Bank transfers are pretty much instantaneous these days.

purpleme12 · 25/10/2022 09:09

I've sent the email confirming I've transferred money.
It's just made me feel a bit icky like he doesn't believe I've done it. He hasn't replied to the picture of the email confirming I've sent money

OP posts:
girlmom21 · 25/10/2022 09:09

Obviously I meant to say and send a screenshot of the transaction

purpleme12 · 25/10/2022 09:10

I guess I could see if I could crop the photo to get the other bit out
No it's not instantaneous from this one all the time

OP posts:
girlmom21 · 25/10/2022 09:12

When did you send the email?

icelollycraving · 25/10/2022 09:13

Just send a screenshot of the transaction and cross out your banking details. Most transfers are instant.

RoachTheHorse · 25/10/2022 09:14

What do you mean, icky? He's a business and he just wants to know he's been paid. It's not a personal attack?

SoupDragon · 25/10/2022 09:14

He hasn't received the money, why is it odd that he is checking? Banking glitches happen so checking isn't at all weird. I think you are taking offence at something that is perfectly fine.

Newusernameaug · 25/10/2022 09:17

You’re taking this personally - I know builders and other people who do work like this for people, are you aware of just how many times they’re promised instant payment post job and then have to wait days, weeks chasing the money? It happens A LOT!!!
I don’t understand why it doesn’t show instantly as almost all online banking does now, so again, it’s right and well within their rights to be questioning it - I would be too.
Why should they have to wait days for payment? If you knew your bank did this you should of paid cash or used a different account

madnesss · 25/10/2022 09:18

He's messaged today saying it's not been received and can I send proof of payment 'so he can chase it up'.

What did he say when you said 'I have sent you the email providing rhis'?

purpleme12 · 25/10/2022 09:22

He hasn't said anything when I sent him that

It makes you feel icky he doesn't believe you?! What in the actual ....??? So a stranger came to your house, did work and asked for payment which hasn't arrived. He then asked for something to check you have done it correctly and you feel ick. I think you need to get a life!

purpleme12 · 25/10/2022 09:27

Thank you for the advice of getting a life it's so useful to be on here so I can this essential advice!

Of course he wants to check. Does the email you forwarded contain the account no and sort code it was sent to so he can check it?

madnesss · 25/10/2022 09:31

He hasn't said anything when I sent him that

So you told him you have sent proof, he hasn't responded but you have come to make a thread about him asking for proof?

dampgreg · 25/10/2022 09:37

Your reluctance to provide proof makes me wonder what you've got to hide. Did you definitely send the payment? If you have, why not just show him. Poor sod only wants to know where his money is

purpleme12 · 25/10/2022 09:38

Thank you for the caustic replies.
I hope it's made your day better

Why are you taking everything personally. Just show the proof - job done. It isn't a personal attack, as aren't any of the replies on here. You're making everything a much bigger deal than it actually is

weeme02 · 25/10/2022 09:41

I would give him a few more hours to reply and if you don't hear anything, I'd message again to confirm if he got the email or not?

Some peoples comments on here are uncalled for. The OP is asking for some advice as she's anxious the person hasn't received the money.

She's not anxious that the money hasn't been received. She's worried that the builder doubts her. Well she can deal with that by showing him the proof he's (sensibly) asked for

parkrunner1977 · 25/10/2022 09:44

I transferred some money to my brother once & it showed as having come out of my account. He said he didn't receive though which i thought was strange as should be instant or within a couple of hours. Anyway I phoned my bank & they had held the payment as they thought it was fraudulent but they never bothered to let me know! I then had to spend half an hour on the phone convincing the lady that it was genuine! Might be worth ringing your bank to see if that is what has happened to yours.

purpleme12 · 25/10/2022 09:58

I shouldn't have posted on here anyway
but for reference i wouldn't have sent proof to him if i hadn't sent the payment would i
i would have just ignored his message asking for proof cos i could easily have done that

So what's the issue? He hasn't received payment and chases up the proof. You sent the proof and he hasn't replied again. Genuinely can't understand what the problem is
