Bleeding after Caesarean

I’ve had a caesarean two weeks ago (elective). Woke up this morning for a wee and Half an hour later had a massive gush of blood, soaked through my pad and knickers and pyjamas and onto the sofa. Got up to change my pad and felt like more blood or a clot passed into the loo. Seems to have stopped now. Bleeding was only like a light period for the last week or so. Is this normal? I looked at my wound and it looks alright from the outside and not in any pain.

1st cs I had I bled loads, 2nd hardly anything. It was just like a heavy period.
If you're passing large clots, always worth call to the dr

Thank you, had no bleeding with first Caesar and hardly anything up until now. Not sure how big the clot was that went in the toilet, just felt something come out 😬

baby was cluster feeding again last night, not sure if that could be related.

It’s probably fine, but I would call the community midwives just to have peace of mind.

I would have it checked OP. You can’t be too careful.

I had heard that bleeding after a vaginal birth was for a few weeks and up to eight weeks after a caesarean. I bled like a stuck pig for almost the full eight weeks, a few days more lightly and then it just stopped.

Thank you all, I’ll ring the midwives.

How are you OP?

waitingwaitingwaiting2 · 25/10/2022 18:13

@NCFT0922 thank you for asking, I’m much better. Had very little bleeding since the morning and MW told me to just keep an eye on things. Hopefully it’s settled!

I had exactly the same OP and all was fine.

Not sure if this is helpful or not, but with my first C-section, the midwife said that if you pass anything larger than a 50p pence then you should seek medical advice/attention. I do remember thinking I bled a lot, but midwife said it was normal and a small blood clots (smaller than a 50p pence) was nothing to worry about.
