Name tapes traditional vs sticky

SurlejTiger · 25/10/2022 06:52

Disclaimer: I live in a country without school uniform and name tapes.
DD has rented some sports kit from her club for the year. It is identical to everyone else's except for the codes written on it. To save me learning the codes for every item, I want to name them somehow. They have to be returned in the same state they are so can't write on them.

Am I better getting some sew in labels to sew onto the clothing label? Or do the new-fangled sticky ones or iron on ones peel off without damaging the fabric underneath?
And recommendations for an online order place or brand please.

I would sew on as some of the iron on are very tough to get off and if they aren’t they don’t stay on well which defeats the point of having them!😂

WhaaWhaa · 25/10/2022 07:04

Cash's name tapes are the ones I've always used.

Agree Cash’s name tapes. The sticky ones don’t come off!

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 25/10/2022 07:55

Get woven ones.,
The iron on ones (could you even iron onto sports kit?) and sticky one ones either never come off, or come off about the third time you wash that garment.

Whereisthehugeteddybear · 25/10/2022 07:58

I've used stikins (brand name) and they last for ages including going through the wash multiple times. Never sewing a name label in again!

These stick on ones are great and easy…

Rarely come off in the wash and never fade.

Will she be able them off the sports kit at the end of the season?

JuneOsborne · 25/10/2022 08:04

I'd sew them on in a little loop, so they're secure, but when you remove them there's not too much stitching to undo.

SurlejTiger · 25/10/2022 08:05

@Iwritethissittinginthekitchensink I need to be able to take them off, either at the end of the season if we decide to buy her her own kit or if whenever we hand them back when she needs a new size, without damaging the kit. Else I have to pay for a replacement.

Sew in ones are the best for removal without damaging the garment.

dementedpixie · 25/10/2022 08:12

I'm sure there's little plastic tags you can get too but probably more expensive

these are a little pricey but perfect for what you need as they are easy to put in (takes seconds) and remove (with the tool, without it they are not going anywhere!) I’ve been using the same set 6 years now and they are as good as new!

confusedlots · 25/10/2022 08:19

The sticky ones from mynametags are great. Stay on even with lots of washing and you can peel them off when you need to without damaging the fabric. I use them for everything for my kids!

TheSandgroper · 25/10/2022 08:30

I’ve used Cash’s for nearly15 years, just unpicking and resewing as dc move through school. I’m happy to recommend.

Onandgrowing · 25/10/2022 08:32

I love the sticky ones but they do tend to leave a mark when removed. Nothing major but you can tell they’ve been there.

Icedlatteplease · 25/10/2022 08:57

All the sticky ones I've had (I've had at least two of the brands mentioned
here) leave a sticky that is near impossible to get off once you get the label off. They do tend to work best on anything you don't have to tumble dry or wash often or some that you don't necessarily expect to last for ever/need name tags forever (primary tops on for a residential)

I hate sewing but woven name tags absolutely the best bet, especially if you need to be mindful of the garment

Zingy123 · 25/10/2022 09:36

Definitely get Cash's ones. I've been using the same ones for 20 years on my children's things. Still look brand new.

fruitpastille · 25/10/2022 10:12

If it's just for your reference, could you just sew a loop of coloured thread somewhere which you can unpick when you send them back? Cheaper than ordering name tags.
