Help me unscrew this bloody pole

Metal umbrella pole (whole pole is metal, wood effect) which comes apart is firmly screwed together and I cannot get it undone, apparently in putting it together in May, I was the hulk.

It definitely comes apart as have done it in previous years

thanks!

Help me unscrew this bloody pole

Rubber gloves?

BlackeyedSusan · 24/10/2022 21:17

Warm it up to Mays temperature?

WomanWomenGirlsFemale · 24/10/2022 21:21

A squirt of wd40 and twist it as if you are doing it up then twist the other way to undo it , hope that makes sense.

daisychain01 · 24/10/2022 21:25

Leftie loosey

Righty tighty

WeAreTheHeroes · 24/10/2022 21:26

There's a WD40 product that frees stuck stuff like that.

Onesmallstepforaman · 24/10/2022 21:33

Tap round the join lightly with a hammer . This should shake any corrosion loose, then wd or similar into the seam.

Jellykat · 24/10/2022 21:37

Give the joint bit a good whack?
I know when trying to unscrew seized screws at work (furniture restoration) we heat the head up with a hot poker, can you heat it up somehow? hairdryer, hot water from kettle?
Failing that try switching it off and on Grin

IHopeYouStepOnALegPiece · 24/10/2022 22:19

I’ve turned it on and off 😁

sprayed WD40 (does anyone else feel like they’ve peaked adulthood when they buy it?)

Tried rubber gloves

will try heat and hammer tomorrow!

😁 thanks all

Oh no what a wind up!
One last possibility.. can you get a small hacksaw blade (or knife) and cut into the join all the way around, where the two metal bits meet? Looks like theres a bit of corrosion on the metal bit and same in that joint, maybe breaking the bit where its fused might do it. < wishful thinking >
N.b i bloody love the smell of WD40!! very pleased the straw is attached these days, i used to always lose the little bugger..

Clymene · 25/10/2022 18:17

Have you tried dropping it? It might loosen it - looks like it's corroded together. Have you tried two people?

purplecorkheart · 25/10/2022 18:20

A large wrench.

Tiredmumno1 · 25/10/2022 18:21

Can you try and tighten it a bit more then try and undo it?

SingingSands · 25/10/2022 18:23

Try pouring a bit of nail varnish remover into the join, to dissolve the corrosion that has bonded. After DH attempting to remove the rear wiper on his car for 5 HOURS we discovered this on the Internet. Worked in 30 seconds 😄

NannyGythaOgg · 25/10/2022 20:39

attach and tighten 2 pairs of adjustable pliers - one either side of the joint. Force in opposite directions.

IHopeYouStepOnALegPiece · 25/10/2022 21:01

Thanks all!

I had to do it on my own (because I’m a stubborn old mule 😁) and I tried @Jellykat whack it method again with a tap all around the join and it worked this time!

I’ve ruined a jumper with wd40 but worth it!

and @Jellykat , where are you buying your fancy wd40!? Mine doesn’t have the straw attatched!!

thabks all! I’ve screenshot all the messages for this time next year when I have the same problem 😁
