Looking at booking a last minute holiday around the middle of next month
Where do you think it will be nicer?
We know it won't be summer hot but a nice 23 degrees I would love to break up winter.

Will Crete still be ‘open’ in November? We went in later October a few years ago and we’re last ‘package’ holiday of the season’ about half the hotels and restaurants were closed. The weather was warm and lovely during the day, a few days were a bit windy, but evenings got cool and we needed fleeces/wraps to be comfortable.

I've been to Crete at the end of October and it was around 20c most days. We had two warmer days when swimming was possible but the sea was fairly choppy. Crete has just had some really terrible weather and flooding which might affect availability. Our friends were there when it happened and their hotel flooded on the ground floor

Oh @FadedRed I didn't know they closed 🙈
Looks like it will be Gran Canaria then

Gran Canaria. Lots of Greek resorts virtually close down in October.

mdh2020 · 24/10/2022 16:06

Cretans move to the mainland for the winter.

Mosik · 24/10/2022 16:11

You need Canaries for warm weather in winter. It's out of season for Greece.
Even Gran Canaria won't be the sort of hot sun you might get in summer in Greece but it will likely be 20 to 25C. It also gets dark early similar to here.

Realityloom · 24/10/2022 16:13

One of my colleagues has just come back from Costa Adeji in Tenerife. Canaries is known for winter sun (although I wouldn't risk it). Greece isn't and Crete has a breeze on the island even in June.

Just checked and at the min Gran Canaria is 27-26 degrees and showing that way so far till November so hopefully it will last

We went to Gran Canaria last week and it was so hot! (I know you're talking about next month but I don't imagine it will drop that much in a few weeks). While we were there BBC Weather showed highs of 26/27 most days but the temperature displays outside shops etc. were often around 32/33. Enjoy your holiday x

IceandIndigo · 24/10/2022 16:24

Gran Canaria will probably have warmer days (or at least more reliably warm), but if you want to swim in the sea the water in Crete will be warmer. I imagine Crete might be better value for money as it will be low season there, whereas winter is peak season in the Canaries. I've been to Crete in October and did not have a problem with things being open, we stayed in a small hotel and ate in local restaurants, so I'm not sure how it would be in the big resorts.

ethelredonagoodday · 24/10/2022 16:30

We are currently in Tenerife and it's still pretty hot (upwards of 25)...

Same here, bbc weather app says 26, hotel temperature display says 29...

thunderonlyhappenswhenits · 24/10/2022 16:41

Fuerteventura showing 28 atm on the weather app so most likely will be even hotter than that. Canaries the way forward this time of year

cheeeryybaby · 24/10/2022 16:51

Thanks everyone we have just booked for the 16th November for a week
Hopefully it won't drop too much by then

Definitely Gran Canaria. The Greek islands get cooler surprisingly quickly once summer has ended.

Beyondshit · 24/10/2022 18:15

Where have you booked op? Am also considering a quick trip for some sun!

cheeeryybaby · 24/10/2022 19:33
