Another odd question! Just come back from a school trip. One student left his coat in the wardrobe of his room. I phoned the hotel, they have it. The receptionist said it’s difficult to send packages because of Brexit. I realise it’s a big ask of a small hotel to package and send back the coat, but it needs to be done and he said he would. Presumably someone needs to wrap it up and go to the Post office. We will then need to pay them for this. Can anyone tell me how tricky sending a package to the Uk is and how we can get payment to them? The school will pay then invoice the parent.

Many thanks.

It's not tricky, the hotel just have to go to the post office? But it will be pricey... and they may not be prepared to send an employee to queue up and fill in all the forms etc.

It's not difficult but it is a bit more time consuming as you need to do a customs declaration. I do sympathise with them as I rarely send parcels to the UK now as it's a faff.
You could try a courier company they should be able to collect direct from the hotel and they will do all the customs paperwork but it may well just be cheaper to buy a new coat.

What coat is it? Probably cheaper to buy a new one.

Swissnotswiss · 24/10/2022 12:38

What's the value? Yes, thanks to Brexit it might be cheaper just to get a new one. I have given up on sending packages to the UK.

Agree with others - I no longer send parcels to the UK from France as it's too expensive and time-consuming

Brigante9 · 24/10/2022 13:05

I’m thinking the same! Probably easiest to pay via my credit card and get reimbursed by the school but as pp say, it might not be worth it and who will want to queue up? I’ll speak to the parent.

It's not tricky it's expensive. Even if it's not heavy it's bulky. It could be the price of a new coat...

The hotel hasn’t responded to my email so I think it’s unlikely they want the bother.

Isn't this the parent's problem?

The parent who speaks no French? Yes, I'll just leave her to it, shall I?! Charming.
