It's a bit swollen with a tiny cut. What do I do?
He doesn't seem phased by it now, did cry at the time and it sounded like a hard hit to me.

We've just had a horrible night, he has had fever all through the night, is stuffed with of snot. I feel so sorry for him.

It looks fine. I’d just keep a close eye on him. In terms of bumps to the head your face actually protects you.

NCAutumn · 24/10/2022 09:59

Ah, he looks fine. I wouldn't worry about this

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 24/10/2022 10:00

Ok thanks. I was worried about it bleeding inside or something

You could pop some frozen peas in a sandwich bag and then wrap in a muslin to help the swelling. He’s unlikely to let you though at this age.

Yes that's what I thought, there's no hope in hell of that :(

Oh no that's so typical. Hope he's ok
I once dropped my firstborn onto a marble countertop and he had a big red graze type thing slap bang on the middle of his forehead for weeks and weeks. In all the photos for some big events 🤦

This one seems worse though because of the swelling. :(

I think if you can see the swelling that's a good thing, the blood/bruise is on the outside and not internal. Just keep an eye on it.

I once lifted my baby in the air and a accidentally smacked her head off a door frame and she had a huge bump. But she cried immediately and fed fine afterwards. Those are usually good signs.

Just wanted to agree with pp that he will be fine, such a shame after such a horrible night for both of you. Your son is gorgeous by the way-but you already know that of course! 🥰

AnyFucker · 24/10/2022 12:35

That doesn’t look to be in a dangerous area but don’t be surprised if he has 2 black eyes tomorrow

ColonelRhubarbBikini · 24/10/2022 12:51

Oh bless. My DS did something similar when he was a baby and as a panicky first time Mum I freaked out and called the Drs as it swelled quickly and looked awful. By the time I’d pushed him in his pram down to the health centre it looked much much less swollen and I was a bit red faced. They were lovely about it though.

Christ! People with babies have accidents too! I doubt she did it intentionally.

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 28/11/2022 11:59

So to clear things up the firstbirn was dropped on a marble counter too after I got him out of the bath, was wet and slippery and he just kind of climbed out of my arms.
He was ok but I was distraught.
The op is about baby #2 and this was a month ago so I can only imagine hummingbird was searching my name for this post to come up.
Baby #2 is absolutely fine. :)

Did the swelling go down? I ask because my cat knocked over my lamp, which then I reacted to catch, and then when I brought my elbow back, I accidentally elbowed my baby right above the bridge of her nose between her eyebrows (it wasn't a hard elbowing, and thank goodness I didn't elbow an eye) but it looks like there's some slight swelling, and I'm worried I've scarred her for life.

She briefly cried (5 seconds at most), I kissed it better, and put cold packs on it, but it still looks a little swollen. There's no bruising though, at least not yet. My little angel is a tough little trooper.

Came across this thread when googling about what I did, and this gives me some assurance she will be alright and the swelling will go down within a few days (fingers crossed).

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 28/02/2023 12:14

Hi @AnasMomma yes the swelling came down within a day or so and the bruising didn't spread.
I'm sure you're little one with be the same. They are pretty hardy wee things! X

My dc did similar at about 2 or 3 ( jumping from furniture) had two lovely black eyes the next day. Did it stop them jumping off everything, including a flight of stone steps from a local shop a few days later? No.

Dont worry, your LO will be fine. It’s scary though, isn’t it?

Mommaof3GTTbabies · 03/04/2025 06:36
