Headlice: to treat or not?

Got alerted to the fact I was a close contact of someone who has headlice (we hugged on Saturday).

We all had headlice last year and it took about 10 weeks to completely get rid of them! Every time I thought they were gone, I'd fine one and so it went. 5 lots of treatment, hours spent combing and combing and even resorted to cutting out individual strands of hair that had stubborn eggs. It was terrible!

So now I've discovered I hugged someone with headlice a few days ago and I don't know whether it would be a waste if time to do the treatment now or if I should wait a few days. I checked with the comb and couldn't see anything but think it's too soon.

Any tips?

Considering the experience you had last year, I think I’d treat anyway!

It's not too soon to find lice if you've got them. Ime my children can't stop itching even with 1 louse. But, if it took you 20 weeks, I'd treat now. Lyclear or hedrin work well. The 15 minute or leave in treatments, very greasy to wash out but that's what works.

I would

I would get the chemical one, those smothering treatments never work for me.

I'd just comb every 3 days for a couple of weeks.

But then I never found any of the "treatments" worked. The only thing that did was combing regularly

Why would you wait until they got a foothold? Get the comb out OP.

I do regular comb throughs as I was crawling by the time I found out last time. I've combed this morning and have just stuck some Hedrin in. Will maybe just comb the kids for a while. Glad my friend gave me the heads up so I can get on top of it this time!
