Dock & Bay towels - opinion please

Before I invest in a couple for travelling, please would you let me know what you think if you have used them? They appeal because they claim that they dry quickly, pack small (is this easily achieved? It seems. sand is brushed off them more easily than regular towels - but does that surface make them uncomfortable to use for drying yourself?

Thanks

I really like them - they are more like a towel than my old gym microfibre thing, but not as fabric-y as a hammam towel. Easy to fold back up as well, which I was doubtful about.

We have 4, and a hair turban thing for me. I got all of them in the sale - not sure about paying full price but that’s because we only use them for travel and it seemed a bit excessive. They have a pretty good sale section if you aren’t fussed about colours and patterns.

I have 6, they are great!

I bought some for the dc and I in the summer. They are not amazing and actually take ages (days) to dry if it's not hot. Rather dissapointed in them actually.

I have a Hamman towel that cost about £5 which packs smaller and dries quicker.

I've got one and don't like the feel of it 🤢

JudgeRindersMinder · 24/10/2022 08:23

We have a couple and they’re good BUT they’re a nightmare for shedding dye when washing, so be careful!

Lcb123 · 24/10/2022 08:26

I’ve got one for showering at the office, it’s fine! Pretty similar to ones I’ve had in the past from hiking beans like Gelert

Era · 24/10/2022 08:28

We have two of the large circular ones. They are good for sitting on at the beach. In fact I’m on the beach sitting on one right now. They are however just microfibre towels. You can get those anywhere. If you’re not getting the circular ones I’m not sure why you’d buy the branded ones.

Hmmm very mixed opinions!
Thanks all, might reconsider.

We got given some as gifts, we use them a lot but they don’t dry nearly as well (either human or towel) as very old camping towels from REI (bought in the States but sure you could find similar in one of the British outdoor stores).

Ladyoftheprom · 24/10/2022 08:56

We love ours! Perfect, had no problem with colour run, and ours dry really quickly! Kids now take them on school trips as so small to pack!

MrsSchadenfreude · 24/10/2022 08:57

I’ve got one. Better for sitting on, on the beach than for drying yourself. They stay quite stiff. I think a cheaper microfibre towel from Decathlon would be just as good, if not better. They do also take quite a long time to dry, much slower than my Decathlon microfibre towels.

Everydaywheniwakeup · 24/10/2022 08:57

They are ok. They do feel a bit weird. And I like to recline on a sun lounger like the Queen of Sheba and you can't on one of these, there's no comfort in them. But they do fold down small so that's a huge plus for packing purposes.

APurpleSquirrel · 24/10/2022 09:04

We have one each which we generally only use if going to the beach. They feel very smooth to me - not like a big fluffy towel, but get the job done.
They do dry quickly, but usually we're at the beach in the sun, so drying them there.
They fold down flat & small & still fit in their carry bags.

Berthatydfil · 24/10/2022 09:26

We have bought these and they are great,
We have the flat fabric microfibre towels as well and I think the fluffy ones are slightly better.

NeedWineNow · 24/10/2022 09:29

We've got one each as our beach towels. Love them. Saw us through two weeks in Greece without that horrible wet towel smell that you usually get and dried fine and quickly over the balcony. Comfortable when lying on sunbeds. Folded down into their carry bags for travel and no due run when washing when I got home. I was very impressed. I got ours in the sale though - not sure I'd pay full price.

NeedWineNow · 24/10/2022 09:30

dye run not due!

Drywhitefruitycidergin · 24/10/2022 09:31

We love ours - have one each for beach

VenusClapTrap · 24/10/2022 09:50

We’ve got one, plus two others that are very similar but different brands. They’re convenient for travelling but not as nice to sit on or to use to dry yourself as a normal beach towel.

1990s · 24/10/2022 09:53

Microfibre towels are quite bad environmentally as they shed fibres every time you wash them which are then in the water cycle so we drink them, etc etc

I also think Dock and Bay towels feel weird, and don’t dry that quickly.

A cotton hammam towel dries quicker, folds smaller, feels nicer and doesn’t shed micro plastics.

I've just bought from them two beach towels. One arrived dirty with yellow stains. Ive requested a return and was planning to exchange it thinking it's just a small start up company, mistakes happen. But I've received the below reply from them and found their customer service really odd... Having mixed feelings about them.

Hey Agnieszka,

I hope you're well :-)

I was just processing return requests and saw that you're hoping to return an item that isn't quite right. We've had to decline your request, but no worries, this is only because we need to get a little bit more information from you so that we can figure out next steps 🤩

It sounds like there might be some stains on your towel. I'm so sorry to hear this- that's definitely not amazing 😱 Have no fear, we will get this sorted for you. ✨

Please could you send over some photos of the damage on your product? This will help us find out where this may have gone wrong and make sure it doesn't happen again. Thank you 🙌

I look forward to hearing back from you :)

All the best,
Avry 🦩
